Working Title: The Pixel That Broke the Camel\'s Back: From YKTTW

Specialist290: Removed duplicate Portal entry.

Ninjacrat:

Joss Whedon, despite making non-interactive fiction, is not above doing this in his works. He is an evil man.
I think we have new 'most vapid' winner.

Jack Butler: Must you always be so critical of others?

Fly: This is not just a list of Tear Jerkers. Can someone cut all the examples which are sad for the characters and not for the player?
Wanders Nowhere: I'm sorry, but I can't see how Aerith's death is "borderline". Even those who didn't like her as a character should be able to recognise how important her death was to the game's storyline and how much it affected those who did like her. If the death of a Metroid larva counts as this trope, Aerith certainly does too ;p

lolwut: It's not about how it affects the characters. It's about how it affects the players.

Hitchopottimus: I'm trying to decide if this is too personal. In Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark, after the character I had been playing as evil betrayed everyone and let a nigh-invulnerable devil loose on the world and had been sent to hell I was shocked to find that the little comic-relief sidekick Deekin wanted to follow me, and literally kept telling angels that he needed to leave heaven because the main character needed him. It made me start a redemption arc for my character. Not mandated by the game, just mandated by my overwhelming love for Deekin and wanting to make the character as good as Deekin thought he was.

Shrikesnest: Spoiler trope, anybody? I'm thinking of nuking the vast majority of these spoiler tags. Especially for games that came out ten years ago.
