stabbyfairy: I need a little formatting and standardising done if nobody minds. This is my first full entry and I'm not entirely sure about it yet. =v_v=

Also, I was going to include Mutsumi from Love Hina in the examples, but couldn't remember if she ever actually coughs up blood or if she just passes out all the time.

Oh, and I promisepromisepromise I checked to see if one of these already existed. v_v (Maybe it just comes under Ill Girl and doesn't really need to be here. If that's the case, delete away. >_< I should stop editing bits in here now, it's getting annoying.)

Susan Davis: This seems an awful lot like Soap Opera Disease, though I really like the trope name.

stabbyfairy: Hah, I didn't even think to check under that. I don't watch soaps a lot and from the few soap-related tropes I've browsed, British soaps are a lot less... hem... melodramatic than US ones. XD

If they warrant merging, I won't kick up a stink. =D

Morgan Wick: We need to write something somewhere to use the Search tool to find out if you're duplicating something else instead of indexes or hunting through various interconnected articles, and to look through every single page that comes up.

stabbyfairy: Hmm, that would be useful. But with the tendency to give things odd names, it might be a bit difficult to implement. Meh, it's worth suggesting, at least. =D

Ununnilium:

  • Western Example: General Grievous from the Star Wars prequels features a nasty, wet, hacking cough. Given that the man is a full-conversion cyborg, it looks quite comical. This was supposedly the byproduct of a scene from an tie-in animated short where Mace Windu crushed his chest panel. It was basically an Ass Pull to weaken him for his fight with Obi-Wan Kenobi. So it did kill him, even if indirectly.

This is not the trope, not even a little.

Guesss Who: How about Raistlin Majere, in Dragon Lance?

Nornagest: Wiped the following RL examples; they don't fit the trope (lacking the essential "death" qualification), and you can't really call them subversions. The third's cute, but not meaningful without the other two.

* This editor often gets a (non-fatal) cough with all the symptoms of this BUT the blood and the dying.
** And this one has moderate asthma combined with allergy problems, so he too sometimes follows this trope, again without the hacking up blood and dying parts. He hopes.
** And this one died of an Incurable Cough without the blood part.
