Added the bit about Patlabor. -zhirzzh

For reference — if you need a bible verse in a hurry, "Jesus wept" will do nicely.

Danel: Removed the Harry Potter example, since it doesn't really fit - you'd expect there to be that sort of thing on gravestones, and they don't have much to do with the actual plot.

  • Harry Potter — Random quote used in a booster's speech. Also, a Bible quote found on the tombstone of Ariana Dumbledore ("Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:21) in the last book, which is one of the few times religion ever puts in an appearance in the series.
    • Don't forget the tombstones of Lily and James Potter, from 1 Corinthians 15:26. "The last enemy to be conquered is death."

Haven: Natterhounding!

  • Interestingly enough, the only chickens in the usual canon of The Bible are when Jesus says He longed to gather Jerusalem as a hen gathers her chickens (Matthew 23:37) or brood (Luke 13:14) under her wings, and of course, the crowing cock (which may have actually been something akin to a town crier rather than an actual fowl). None of which Tevye would have known, since he would never have encountered any book in the New Testament.
  • "Usual canon" be damned, there's multiple references to chickens in Jewish canon, which includes the Talmud and multiple books of proverbs, which Tevye would be passingly (but not actually) familiar with.
