Morgan Wick: The readership of this wiki is international. Americans, two-thirds of the people reading what you write live in another country. If you live in a Commonwealth country, two-thirds of your audience will need at least some setup for a joke about, say, the PM of Australia. What about the remaining third? What other English-speaking countries are there that aren't Commonwealth or USA?
Fast Eddie: English is spoken in countries where it is not the national language. The "other third" consists of the majority of the world. Those parts of it that have never been part of the British empire.
Gemmifer: Am I the only one who finds it creepy how the write up goes from happy greeting and a hope one will contribute, to "you might not have a choice" to the tips for contributing? ;)
Haven: I removed this rule, because it really just encourages natter. Now that we don't have I Am Not Making This Up anymore, it seems like we're pushing against authorial intent, which means we shouldn't be so attached to what we write that it's considered a faux pas to edit it. If I'm being presumptious in removing it, feel free to correct me, but I don't think this line has any constructive use anymore.
(Note that it's generally considered bad form to edit other people's posts unless there are serious markup problems or uncovered spoilers, so don't do this unless you have to.)
