VideoGame Love It Or Hate It, but if you want to try it try it soon.
This is coming from a person who has played since October 2006 and has been a member since November 2006, so there may be a bit of Nostalgia Filter.
Rune Scape is very much a melting pot of various content. There are a lot of minigames scattered throughout for when you are bored. Most of these minigames are of So Okay Its Average quality. For example, the two primary strategy minigames-Conquest (Create an army with Points, turn-based) and Mobolising Armies (RTS)-are both bare-bones compared to standalone titles in the same genre, but for a quick minigame can be amusing. However, many minigames can no longer be played casually, as they are dominated by long-term players significantly farther in each minigame's Metagame. However, many of the other minigames such as Castle Wars (Capture the Flag) and Stealing Creation (Team Battlefield where you have to make your own equipment and fight) are still popular enough that casual players can enjoy them, even with low stats. The quests provide several interesting (for an MMORPG) plot lines for you to pick up on, but without fansites (which often spoil) knowing what quests are next in the story you are trying to follow can be hard to find out. So, there's a lot of stuff for you to try, but most of the content couldn't stand alone.
Much of the training of skills is doing the same things for hours upon hours, but some new features, particularly weekly and daily activities and giveaways, are helping to avert this problem. Rune Scape has no class or race system-The only thing you can ever lock yourself out of on one character is min-maxed skills for your level area, which only really affects Player Versus Player. However, getting to high skills will take a LOT of time, and more content is becoming geared to high-level players. It is probably a good idea to try this game out now, see if you like it, and if you do continue playing. Otherwise, you may be unable to catch up effectively.
The community...varies in quality. It is probably a good idea to find some friends who play this game to help you on rather than asking random people in Lumbridge.
The new tutorials are getting a bit complex and confusing for newers players, as opposed to no tutorials at all or a easy-but-general tutorial. If you pay attention to everything, however, and maybe ask a few friends, you can get through.
VideoGame Runescape: Your Mileage May Vary. A lot.
Oh, Runescape. I'm not quite sure what to think about you. You have a lot of good features, as well as some bad ones. Like I said, Your Mileage May Vary.
Combat is okay, but could do with a bit more balance. You have to be prepared for everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. You need to have good melee skills, magic skills, and range skills if you want to have any chance of surviving. Accidentally wandering into a dungeon filled with aggressive demons can mean the quick death of you. Plus you can't dodge projectiles. Once something fires an arrow or magic spell at you, it's gonna hit you, no matter what. Also it requires grinding. A LOT of grinding.
The world is beautiful, ranging from icy mountains to grassy plains, to the howling desert. The problem? If you want to see 75% of the beautiful scenery, you need to become a member.
Gameplay is pretty simple, simple enough for anybody to play. Click here, move there, chop down some trees, fish some trout, mine some rocks. There's nothing too complicated.
If we worked on a rating system for reviews, I'd give it a 9/10. 1 point off for having to be a member just to access 95% of game content.
VideoGame It's still kind of good, but not excellent
Now, this review isn't exactly about the game overall as it's how the changes have come across:
Well, while it's not exactly awful, the combat was changed around a lot, but u can see the developers trying to re-balance the games, as opposed to the melee dominated "Runescape 2"; but the attempts of re-balance the game just make the combat triangle like a cosmetic change, most armor of the same level but different type have the same stats as each other, but with the change in the weaponry and what other style hits better. The change on how the level affects combat also makes it weird, something in your same level makes your defense nearly non-existing. The weakness of certain creatures to a certain style takes away the variety of having more than one weakness(and sometimes, something is weak to the attacks of the style that it hits harder)and finally, the implementing of "action commands" makes inflicting damage too easy in most of the already existing creatures, in short, the biggest problem with the " evolution of combat" isn't that it is different to what most people are accustomed, but that it doesn't works with pretty much, everything that already existed.
The next thing that happens, is the change of context, while it's good to bring in new environments and places to the game that differ with each other, but nowadays the problem with "newer" places is that they aren't exactly "different" places on a context or time period, but it seems the developers want to bring other time periods or contexts into something that is a "medieval fantasy" game, it's normal to have the quests and places that reveal an ancient lost civilization with weaponry and stuff that seems quite ornate and elaborate and that it's quite strong and something u will want to use, but it's not exactly a good move to try to make the whole game look like an ancient lost civilization.
All in all, the biggest problem Runescape it's facing isn't trying to do something new, but doing things that don't fit with the already existing game, all the while without trying to bring a lot of the content up to date, IT IS NOT an awful game, but it has seen better days, and as time goes on, it falls more and more into the realms of the typical MMO that tries to impress with HD and a "deep" plot with "epic" battles and fighting moves.
