FanficRecs lanky's review
Personally speaking, I've chalked Ranma's blase attitude towards the teachers and his fellow students up to Rule Of Funny. Like most of his other work, Black Dragon 6 isn't really in the story for the drama. And oh how funny this story is. The prank war between Yukari and Ranma (especially the end of it) is easily worth the build up of reading, even if you don't find anything else funny. Which you will. Full on Rec for this.
FanficRecs antvasima's review
I like what I've read so far of this. It is entertaining, tongue-in-cheek, "Harry Potter on crack", but avoids turning amoral, and Ranma is mostly in decent character. BD seems to have realised that the key to making Ranma work in this type of semi-power-tripping story, is that the people he lashes out on have to really deserve it (Complete Monster variety) for him to turn ruthless, and with the possible exception of Nabiki and Happosai the regular loons just aren't anywhere nearly bad enough to deserve that kind of treatment, and flaws or not Ranma most definitely isn't remotely a bully (he will gladly gloat and brag a lot though). Here however the balance works just fine, and if anything there is a reaction in the other direction. Ranma is actually canonically very used to taking monster extermination missions. In fact, if anything the only raised eyebrows would be that he is so tolerant of the casual cannibals, torturers, rapists, mass-murderers, and worse, surrounding him.
FanficRecs Comartemis' review
Black Dragon has one of the best senses of humor that I've ever encountered, and it comes across wonderfully here, whether Ranma's curb-stomping the students, trying to survive having Jadeite and Richard for teachers, dealing with the spiders in his and Tsukune's dorm room, or engaging in all-out cross-campus prank warfare with Yukari, every chapter is loaded to the gills with Crowning Moments of Funny. Definitely a good way to brighten up your day, and best of all chapter 3's author notes indicate that Dragon's been reading the manga, so he's clearly not basing this on the decay-ridden anime adaptation.
FanficRecs Beautiful. Hilarious. Accessible.
No, that's not a typo. Accessible describes this fanfic almost perfectly.
I was able to link this fanfic to a friend who had only casual knowledge of Ranma 1/2, and no knowledge of Rosario + Vampire whatsoever. He loved it.
This could, admittedly, be worked both ways; I'm under the impression that the author doesn't respect Rosario's canon 100%, though it does feel like it does a more than adequate job with Ranma's. That being said, I don't actually know the Rosario canon enough to know for certain.
What I do know, is that this story is hilarious, awesome, and the author does nothing short of a brilliant job of creating original, and amusing characters.
Is it going to be a fight-scene that just happens to be chock full of references to video game and tabletop games I've played? Is it going to be a One Dialog, Two Conversations? Is it going to be a jaw-dropping reminder of just how inhuman these characters (all of them) can be? Might it be one of the more rare, genuinely moving moments in the story? Because ... those happen too, and they're not just played for laughs (all the time).
I wish I could be more critical, but the truth of the matter is that this story is just too awesome to me to really spot a lot of flaws.
I highly recommend this story.
