Ugh...

I'll say this first, I was not an FF fan when I first played this game.

This is one of those games with so many flaws it's hard to find one to start with. So, I'll start with the good part. The combat system, is awesome. I still don't like the 'I have a party of seven people but only three of them can fight at one time,' thing, but to be fair, there are very, very few games that allow you to use all party members. The Aeon animations are really pretty cool, Yojimbo and Anima being two of my favorites. Lastly, the boss battles (up to the anti-climax boss) are amazing.

Here's the stuff I hate; the story is crap, predictable villain, stupid backasswards logic, and just so many cheap tricks it's just sad. The voice acting is terrible, mostly. Auron is awesome, and so is Lulu, but otherwise, everyone else sounds either irritating or bored, especially Tidus and Yuna, you've probably heard of that infamous laughing scene. Blitzball is a total waste, it's honestly one of the worst minigames I've ever seen. The leveling system is pretty stupid, but they tried something new, so I do give them credit for it. The last thing, is the temples; nothing more than 15-90 minutes of busy work. God help you if you want to unlock the bonus Aeons like Yojimbo and Anima. I'll just chock it up to another Square Enix failure, god knows they've got an abundance of them lately. My review is probably vanilla and too short, if you want a better review, go to The Spoony Experiment, he has an 85-90 minute review that goes into detail and is hilarious.

"Ugh" is right. Somehow I KNEW this review would end in sucking Spoony's dick and shilling his unfunny review.

everyone else sounds either irritating or bored

So wait, you exclued LULU from sounding bored? Her voice was usually very dull, expository, and monotonous.

especially Tidus and Yuna, you've probably heard of that infamous laughing scene.

That would be more of a writing complaint than a voice acting one. There's no way ANY voice actor could've made that sound any different. It sounded the same, if not worse, in the Japanese version too.

So the actual gameplay is awesome, but the story and voice acting sucks.

At least they didn't mess up on the important parts.

How much gameplay can a JRPG have, anyway? You pretty much just walk up and down a map, talking to NP Cs and picking up items. In combat, you choose what you want your characters to do from a menu and then watch the game play itself.

If the game has a bad story, then it better have some pretty cool and flashy combat animations, otherwise it's just trash.

I excluded her because she was not a total blithering jackass and she had a great rack.

In other words, because you're a shallow fanboy.

You found it unfunny because you are, more than likely, one of the people that likes this game. I pity you, I really do.

Yes, it's one of my all time favorite games too. I pity YOU for being a miserable Fan Hater from the Hate Dumb.

Yeah, it's true that the writing in that scene (more like 95% of the goddamn game) sucks.

What would you consider better writing, I wonder?

Actually, Final Fantasy 12 was pretty good, both the acting and the scenes, though the combat system sucked, and it was the first JRPG I had to grind through. Honestly, if Final Fantasy combined 10's combat system with 12's deeper story line, then it would be a more enjoyable series. Quite a few other games, including; Bioshock, the Fallout series, Call of Duty (though I've never played the games), Prototype, there's a lot. If you're looking for older games, Shadowhearts: Covenant, Bloodrayne (to a lesser extent), Resident Evil 4, I could go on all night.

I pity YOU for being a miserable Fan Hater from the Hate Dumb. I also screwed up with that comment, I don't pity you for liking the game. I really could care less whether you liked the game, or hated it. I actually meant it in the fact that you didn't find Spoony's review of it funny, even a little bit by the sounds of it, but honestly, just forget I ever said that, it was stupid and childish on my part. I apologize.

It's my review and I personally hated it. If you don't like my point of view on it, then please, write your own review and let the world know why you like it and why it's the greatest thing ever and one of your all-time favorite games. It's a lot more informative to people than whining about how wrong I am because I have a different opinion.

Well I like Final Fantasy VIII but found Spoony's review of that to be funny on multiple occasions. His review for this game just fell flat for me due to his dickish Fan Hater attitude, rabid and over-the-top Tidus bashing, comments on how people shouldn't possibly like this game and that people who do should be killed, and his Completely Missing The Point on several things. The whole sketch with Tidus and Black Lantern Spoony wasn't funny either and it detracted from whatever review he was trying to do there. It just wasn't funny to me; Spoony rarely is funny to me, really. I don't equate Fan Hater with being funny or clever. Other reviewers can bash things and give their negative opinions on them without feeling the need to make people who enjoy them feel like dirt.

Doug Walker (the Nostalgia Critic) has said on many occasions that if you disagree with his bashing of something and actually like said thing, that's fine; different strokes and all that. Spoony, on the other hand, apparently feels free to voice his amazement that anyone can like the things he hates and that they're just plain wrong and ought to be punished for it.

and why it's the greatest thing ever

But it's not the greatest thing ever. I have at least nine video games I like better than it (and no, they're not just the nine previous Final Fantasies) and even they aren't the greatest thing ever. Such a term is entirely subjective.

It's a lot more informative to people than whining about how wrong I am because I have a different opinion.

See the thing is, you're review isn't very good or informative either. And that goes beyond just "having a different opinion." You began by listing the good things, then started to rag on the many you stuff you hated before cutting it short and ending it by blatantly advertising someone else's "hilarious" negative review. Relying on somebody else to make your case for you....that just doesn't give you alot of credibility as a reveiwer, IMHO. If you wanted to state your opinion, do it yourself and leave someone like Spoony out of it.

I can relate to the voice acting a little bit (Tidus bugs me a bit sometimes), and i'm not too big of a Blitzball fan either (probably because I suck at it :P). I also like the battle system and the summon graphics. Also, if by predictable villain you mean Seymour, then yeah. I haven't even finished the game yet, but I know this guy is gonna be a total buttplug.

However.

The story was, and still is, pretty good. Cheap tricks? The only cheap trick i've encountered so far is Chocobo Eater, and there's nothing a bit of practice won't beat. the temples can be kinda stupid (though that's just my shame from spending 45 minutes in the thunder temple ): ) but, for the time, was pretty cool. You know, being able to animate spheres and all.

Please stop acting like a butthurt fanboy. Next time you want to review something, please do it PROPERLY.

Fair enough review, except for the cheap tricks dig. It would have been cheap because they throw a lot of shocking twists at you, but each of them makes sense, is hinted at, is explored thoroughly, goes on to play a major role in the story and fits the central theme and they're all connected.

Yeah I disagree with a lot of the rest of the things you said, but you sound genuine, it's understandable and you expressed yourself informatively with a nice bit of balance, so good review

I like how many of the comments around the reviews section are more like mini-reviews of a review.

SOMEBODY DISAGREES WITH ME! THEY MUST BE A FANBOY! TT________TT

I agree, though I think the plugging Spoony is stupid and you deserve to get flamed for it. Never plug something better than what you're doing, you're just asking for trouble. If by cheap tricks you mean the whole "Sin can suddenly teleport people bull" then yeah, that was cheap, but that was the only time I really saw anything like that happen. I think the gameplay could have been better if they'd incorporated something like the ring system in Shadow Hearts or the square box in Legend of Dragoon, something that makes it so you have to pay attention. I basically was able to do all the battles while surfing the web. And the temples were just stupid. I used a gameshark to get Yojimbo, Anima and all the other awesome Aeons, so I just finished those stupid things as fast as possible.

To be honest, while I disagree with the rest of the review, the temples were pretty goddamn awful.

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.

That's the point of the comment section, if you weren't ready to deal with criticism and were going to be so immature about it, then you shouldn't had made a review to begin with.

You know someone has little faith in their own ability when they actually honestly think the unfunny Spoon-whatever guy is better than them. Which, of course, begs the question... why did you even write this? This is like the ultimate parody of shallow FFX reviews... when you have actually invested time in a game beyond watching lame internet review videos on it, even someone of less than average intelligence should be able to get what the laughing scene is all about.
