Actually really good

To be honest, the only thing I'd known about this movie before it showed up was its trailer and that it had Adam Sandler with it. It was only now that I've read Pixels' TV Tropes page and found out how much hate it gets. But you know what? It's actually a pretty awesome movie, provided you don't think too hard about it. It has a fun premise, really awesome action scenes and outstanding visuals. The characters are all quirky in their own ways and the ending kept me at the edge of my seat. Some scenes did make me chuckle, too, albeit probably not all the authors wanted me to laugh at.

Of course, it's not a perfect movie, as the first act, save for the 1982 beginning and the Guam base scene, is pretty cringeworthy, but believe me, It Gets Better. From the moment the cast arrives in London, it's a great ride, and at the end I wished it could take at least half an hour longer. And there are some... weird scenes, but if you hear people saying "Q*bert was raped in this film!", then they are dead wrong and it's much more complicated that they make it seem. After the first act was over, I loved all characters in this movie - yes, including the one which was supposed to do the raping - and I'm certainly going to see it again one day.

Long story short - nice no-brainer to watch with a pack of popcorn and I believe it Needs More Love.

The only good things are the pixels and some of the set pieces. KEVIN JAMES IS THE PRESIDENT JUST BECAUSE SANDLER KNOWS HIM.

I love this movie as well, Kakai.

OK, we REALLY need some real reviews of this piece of shit, to balance out this rubbish. But I think the people who've seen it are just trying to scrub it from their mind, so they're not likely to regurgitate their experiences here.

Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Arcane Azmadi, this movie is not a piece of shit, it's amazing. But I doubt you would know a good movie if it hit you in the face.

^ ArcaneAzmadi: Well, here's one example of an alternative opinion, though it is sadly not on here.

I can only see this situation getting worse before it gets better.

I'm not a big fan of Adam Sandler any more - I was as a kid, a few particular favorites being Little Nicky and Click despite their flaws. Come "Funny People" and the atrocious "Jack and Jill"? Not so much. Regardless, I think Pixels is a cool enough concept and I'll be checking it out when it comes to DVD. And yes, despite its panning, it will probably see a DVD release, just like Jack and Jill and every other crappy comedy-blockbuster in the same vein as Pixels.

I can't say anything about the more controversial scenes of this movie having not seen it, but I'll say this much: if q*bert does get raped - keeping in mind that rape isn't just your standard crime-show mugging and assault at weaponpoint, rather possibly being anything where consent is murky or where force is used against a party's will - that's a black mark on the film and in poor taste. Also, the cars at the end sounds like a dumb shoutout with no logic behind it, but I'm capable of getting caught up in hype moments like that and honestly feel no need to judge it until I see it. Sounds kinda cool even.

Overall, I sympathise with people who enjoy the movie, but feel no sympathy for people who throw detractors and other movies under the bus to hype it up. To those who feel the need to do so. Please keep in mind that I don't believe this review did so. Otherwise, I have no real beef against this movie - not to rule out any issues I may find when I do watch it.

To those seeking to do so: don't turn this movie and its perceived quality into an argument. Please and thanks. Glad you enjoyed the movie, kahai.

I give ya credit for finding something good about this movie Kakai. Cause I sure don't see it outside the pretty visuals bringing the game characters to life.

So it's a guilty pleasure? I'm cool with that. It doesn't look to bad actually. I mean, it has to be better than Jack and Jill, That's My Boy and Grown Ups, surely.

It's a decent film that loses many points because of the nerd/geek/gamer stereotypes (which border on "insulting") and the offensive jokes, especially the "women as trophies" message. And that's a shame that those things are even in the movie, because the action scenes are decent, the effects are spectacular, and there are more video game references than you can think of. Even the In other words, this will end up one of the better Happy Madison movies, and be considered bad, or even terrible, simply because Sandler is in it. And I agree; if this has been done without Sandler's type of comedy, this movie would be great. It ends up being "meh" at best, "awful" at worst. It does deserve hate for the things it does wrong, sure. But it doesn't deserve all the blind hate it gets.

You don't get to judge my ability to assess the worth of movies, Ego-Man25. You think this movie is "amazing". You were clearly born without either taste or critical faculties.

Call it a "guilty pleasure" if you like, or say "at least I laughed", or call it "brainless fun". But if you call this tripe "amazing" then your opinion can simply be discarded as meaningless.

Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised.
