Pretty Much the Greatest Thing Ever

Catchy songs, campy story, hammy performances, loads of sexually overt charm and terrible special effects?

Yeah, Rocky Horror is pretty awesome.

If you're reading this then you've either seen it a million times and you just want to see someone reaffirm that, or you've never seen it and your wondering if you should.

If the latter, then yes. A Million times, yes.

I will be accepting hugs later.

Dude, this movie almost gave me nightmares. And it gives me the impression that the 70's wasn't a pretty time.

The 70s weren't a pretty time. Watergate, the energy crisis, disco... It could get really bad.

This was a pretty movie, though. Like yeah, spooky house lampooning old monster movies, but I love how colorful everything is and how everything's set out. Frank N Furter's lips in particular - they start off blood-red with a heavy glaze, and by the end of the movie they're dry and cracked. It's a really good detail.

It's a bit frightening, because it's meant to be poking fun at old monster movies (like the original black and white flicks) - but it does it in a really campy way. Try finding another movie where the mad scientist wears a corset and stockings. It's all good fun.

(Also - disco had its downsides, but I'd say it's one of the better products of the 70's.)

My appreciation of disco is somewhere between the genuine and the ironic.

I still have no idea what this even is. Is it a movie? It is a stage show? It is a TV show? Is it all three? Is it none of them? What is it about? Who stars in it? That's it, I'm finding out what this is once and for all. I keep seeing this strange film/show title all over film review websites and blogs, and I just want to finally know what it even is...

...OK, got it. Sorry but it doesn't interest me.

It's the sort of thing that's much better than it sounds. Starts off kinda ehh, and it's cheesy and kinda hokey (9.5 times out of 10 adding to the charm), but by the end everyone's dancing to like wild 60's music in lingerie. It's a real spectacle. The TV Tropes article doesn't really do it justice - imo, it's more harm to the film than good with all of those godforsaken notes.

If you think this video/song is pretty cool, you might like the film. With the vocal fandom it has it is very easy to suffer from Hype Aversion. I personally think that it's all good fun, but if you don't like it then w/e.

Whoops, poor quality video. Here's a higher quality link.

Honestly, you have to see it in a theater. It's not Rocky without the audience yelling shit at the screen.

@ Kyle Jacobs It's still in theaters..? Isn't it like 40 years old?

Well, it's mostly at midnight showings, and the audience yells at the screen, and there's people acting out the film... it's like a cult thing.

It's the longest running midnight movie on earth. Where I'm from, it plays the second Friday and Saturday of every month, with a shadow cast in front of the screen. Which I am on, for the record.

Why do I really want to know what the first guys nightmares were?
