"When a character's purpose is to get sympathy or motivation from the audience which fails because their story or personality is written badly."
Ma's narrative had some tragedy to it, but I don't know as she was intended, by the story, to get audience sympathy. The story always made a point of saying that she was evil (even if by necessity) and needed to die.
I think the series' sheer size and number of characters justifies a separate page of Alternate Character Interpretation detailling everyone instead of just pointing out Eve and Allen. Should we make it?
Hide / Show RepliesThe current example writeup doesn't justify a separate page. If the example becomes much longer a split would be appropriate but we can wait - there is no guarantee that the page will grow.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAll right, fair enough, we can wait. I had the idea because the current writeup specifically makes it clear that Eve and Allen are but two examples for the sake of brevity.
(Minor topic with lots of writing ouo) So I've seen people add (or I migrated over or even added, myself o~o) a few couples on YMMV that are claimed to be popular in the fandom (Fan-Preferred Couple and Crack Pairing are the tropes I'm thinking of) and I wanted to discuss just how popular some of them are to qualify as an example? For these I have seen very little evidence that anyone pairs them at all, much less that the fandom at large prefers them (part of the problem might be that I am less in-tune with the Japanese fandom?) :
- Platonic/Arte: Haven't seen evidence of them being paired.
- Kyle/Germaine: I've seen some pairings, mostly from Kaimei shippers, but not sure they count as being really popular.
- Ney/Chartette: Haven't seen evidence of them being paired.
- Sateriasis/Lukana: I've seen art of it but I haven't been able to compare it to, say, the vast amounts of Sateriasis/Gallerian or Sateriasis/Kachess (or even Sateriasis/Gumina)
Well, someone obviously thinks they belong...
Noting that, since we don't really gauge the validity of YMMV items with polls.

I've been thinking, should we count Ma as Unintentionally Unsympathetic?
