Spun-off from this YKTTW after a general consensus was reached. Needs Wiki Magic Love to expand the description from the bare essentials that it is now. Please discuss all suggestions here before editing the page.

Strange Grey Cat - http://strangegreycatsblog.blogspot.com - another scanlator proposed some refinements to Yuribou's original article:

http://www.fakku.net/viewtopic.php?t=43164 The size scale here is a bit misnamed. Here's how they're usually stacked up in Japanese comparisons:

  • 無 (nashi) - literally, "nothing". No tits except the nipples. No need for anything more supportive than an undershirt, if that. They use the word "loli" to refer to an overall prepubescent body-type, not the bust specifically.
  • 貧乳 (hin'nyuu) - literally, "poor breasts". The name itself is derisive, but it's the commonly-accepted term. Generally a Western A-cup.
  • 不通 (futsuu) - literally, "average". (Also a derisive term, albeit subtly; it implies that the girl's chest is "nothing special.") Just as it says, it refers to average-sized breasts. Mostly covers the small B-cup range. (The "-nyuu" is not usually attached, and "funyuu" is not a real word; if it were, it would be 不乳 ("no breasts").)
  • 巨乳 (kyonyuu) - lit. "large breasts". No issues here.
  • 爆乳 (bakunyuu) - lit. "explosive breasts". Again, no corrections, just throwing out the kanji for reference.
  • 超乳 (chounyuu) - lit. "extreme breasts". Important to pronounce it chounyuu, as chunyuu (中乳) refers to mid-sized ones.

A separate category, which is gaining increasing emphasis in manga these days, is binyuu (美乳, "beautiful breasts"). This refers to breasts that are perfectly-formed for their size, almost completely symmetrical, with nipples and areolae of proportionate size and placed in the exact right spots. Binyuu can only be found within the futsuu and kyonyuu sizes, as anything less isn't enough to create a definite shape, and anything more is considered grotesque.

Personally, I'm most fond of kyonyuu, but I place more emphasis on body proportion. D-cups on a four-eight, 110-pound woman with no hips to speak of (yes, I'm looking at you, Shirow Masamune!) make me flinch, and not in a good way.

IRL, I tend to use the following metric:

  1. Are they so small that gravity makes them disappear when she's on her back?
  2. Are they big enough to conceivably hit her in the eye on the upswing?
  3. Has any surgical enhancement been done?
  4. If none of the above apply, they're fine.

I'll be giving this some thought tomorrow. Right now, I'm in dire need of some sleep.

D-cups on a four-eight, 110-pound woman with no hips to speak of (yes, I'm looking at you, Shirow Masamune!) make me flinch, and not in a good way.

Any examples? I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about, unless it has no relation to either Ghost In The Shell or Appleseed.

...

... Shit. Fakku.net is locally censor-blocked, and can't find a Google cached copy of the original page. -_-; This sucks.

I would like to add the following image as an illustration: Accompanied by the caption "Even robots get to choose".

(image from Virtual On, not Fan Art, but an official image sanctioned by Hajime Katoki)

Pros for this image: SFW, matches defined categories well, amusing, elicits snarky caption, catches attention.

Cons: they're Mecha.

Dammit, who the hell put this on the cutlist?

DO NOT CUT THIS. It is not redundant, the "Useful Notes on breast size" that the cutlister is referring to only concerns Real Life bra sizes, and there are serious plans in the works on expanding it to cover any similar trends in other media forms.

The name of the person that cutlisted it is right in front of the reason given, you know

While this isn't strictly redundant, I'm not certain how useful knowing the names the Japanese fandom uses for general breast sizes is, and the rest of it is an attempt to categorize said sizes that I'm quite certain is completely useless

WTF do we have this for? Seriously, this is beyond useless. Kill It with Fire.

The table is a lot more useful than the info on the "Useful notes on breast size"-Real Life page, which IMHO is confusing and long-winded.

By this I mean the table needs to be saved and integrated into the "Useful notes on breast size" if this page is cut.
