- There's even a shout out to This Very Wiki! One of the quests is called "Enemy Mine" and it involves someone in the South Shroud (In a city state that doesn't approve of poaching) asking the poachers and Redberry Wasps to look out for Garleans.
Can I get a clarification on this? Virtually all Shout-Out entries claiming to be to TV Tropes end up turning out Older Than They Think. I don't even get what this is talking about; the phrase "enemy mine" is ancient.
Hide / Show RepliesShout-Out is frequently used for things that are coincidental. This seems like that kind of misuse. Yeah, delete it altogether.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis shoutout section is starting to get way too big beyond just folders. I'm planning on making pages for each section of Shoutout.
- Ishgard is a xenophobic empire that's borderline hostile to anyone who isn't them, obsessed with a religious war against one specific enemy, and more or less dominated by an extremely powerful clergy that spends all their time rooting around for heresy. [...] On top of that, they're obsessed with a single Great Leader figure who they believe will lead them to glory and help them take over the world. They're essentially The Imperium of Man in a high-fantasy world.
It doesn't seem to me that making a comparison constitutes a Shout-Out. On top of that, those claims are incorrect; Ishgard is not an empire (it's a city state), they are not obsessed with a single "great leader" and it is not stated once within the entire game that they want to take over the world. I would delete but a second opinion would be appreciated.
Hide / Show RepliesI agree, equating Ishgard to the Imperium of Man seems like more than a bit of a stretch
- Late into 4.0 Stormblood, upon returning to Rhalgr's Reach you can find a side quest where you're tasked to gather supplies from The Fringes to help restock the Ala Mhigo Resistance's medical supplies. As a quest reward, you're given a piece of vanity gear, a Head Bandage, which cover the wearer's eyes and can be used to play up the Blind Weaponmaster trope. However, when dyed with either Soot Black or Jet Black dye, it also acts as a nod to the "blindfolds" that various characters from NieR: Automata wear.
"Vanity gear that can be dyed to look like a certain character = Shout-Out" seems like a bit of a stretch in my opinion, but I don't want to just delete it out of hand without seeing what other editors think
Hide / Show RepliesI agree with you; I think if it was a Shout-Out it would specifically have to reference the game in the flavour text or something.
I have an idea. There's numerous references to The Simpsons as it is a very quotable franchise that I think it should be given its own section in the Dialogue folder for the sake of organization.
