How does being a “ backup player” portray Akiza as a weak and inferior duelist? Compared to the rest of the team, she’s the least experienced in Turbo Duels, plus her deck gets slightly nerfed due to how she could only use Speed Spells, which limits her usual playstyle. Add in the fact that her Japanese voice actress requested time off because she was getting married, Jack being the first on the team to lose in almost every round, and Crow taking Akiza’s place to promote more Black-Wing cards, then it kind of makes sense why she was regulated to the sidelines.
Sure, she doesn’t get a lot of attention in the second season, but in the few duels, she does take part in still portrays her as competent. In the one duel she takes part of in the WRGP that she loses, she not only went out on her own terms but in doing so, she managed to bring out Stardust Dragon to give Yusei an advantage when his turn came up, which in part helped secure her team the win.
