If there ever was a difference between this and "Blind Idiot" Translation, it seems, to judge by all the overlap between the two, that it's been lost. Do these need a trip to the trope repair shop?
Hide / Show RepliesFar as I know, "Blind Idiot" Translation is improper word choice during translation.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmandead link, so removing:
- Someone created a hybrid version of "Backstroke of the West" and A New Hope, resulting in a version where C-3PO is extremely foul-mouthed, Darth Vader is a neurotic who can't handle his duties, Grand Moff Tarkin and Chief Bast are lovers, as are Luke and Obi-Wan (although the latter seems afraid of commitment), and both Han Solo and Jabba the Hutt are doing business dealings with the Presbyterian Church.
Would the Chinese Food example (see Music) better be an example of Translation Train Wreck or Blind Idiot Translation? I kinda feel like it's an overlap of both.
Is there a particular reason why the second image is the same as the first? It seems like it would make more sense to include one that is correctly subtitled and captioned.

Hide / Show RepliesI... don't know. But I do know that too many vulgar jokes where there isn't a need for it is not good.
Did this page quote actually come from anything? The only thing Google can find is this page itself. Heck, anything from Backstroke of the West would be better than just making something up.
It might just be me, but some of these examples feel more like "Blind Idiot" Translation than Translation Train Wreck (as I understand it, this trope is for when things get translated as complete gibberish, rather than just a generally bad translation). Is there anyone with more experience than me who could give this page a look over and see whether any of the examples might fit better in "Blind Idiot" Translation? I already moved a few that I thought would find a better home over there.

Hide / Show Replies...You know, this vaguely reminds me of that idea I had a while ago to write Backstroke of the West as a coherent story based solely on the subtitles (i.e., pretending as though I'd never heard of Star Wars before). I think one of my ideas really did involve a glam rock band.
Of course, the more I think about it the more it seems like a fool's errand.
I don't remember the movie/TV series, but an infamous example of Greek subtitling was the following: "Let's have a toast" (said by a guy holding a glass of some drink) was translated to literally "Let's have a toast" ("Ας φάμε ένα τοστ") where toast=the bread version.
