They all should go. None of them are tropes and are just excuse pages for people to list their favorite characters.
Just one person saying "they're not tropes" isn't enough; state the reasoning behind your case so it can be examined thoroughly, or forever hold your peace. As has been said many times on this site, "Don't like, don't read."
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. While I was in favor of having these at first, I no longer am. These tropes are actually the authors showing instead of telling, generic cuteness, sometimes author appeal, and just plain reflecting reality. No symbolic meaning, no subtext. For me, a good sign that a trope was well established was when the person doing the description could say "In real life (...), but in media (...)". I don't think that can be done with these entries (and not just these three, I mean a multitude of others inside this wiki are not actually tropes, like for example, Flipping the Bird).
Edited by endlessnostalgiaIf this is going to be kept, I think we need to do some cleaning up re: creepiness in the examples and description. EDIT: Have gone through the examples and trimmed them in an attempt to fit the guidelines in this thread. If there's anything I've missed feel free to handle it - I was a little unsure what to do with some of the examples (particularly the Psylocke one) that are from works I'm unfamiliar with.
Edited by MeemsBeing sexy isn't a trope - or this entire wiki would be fetish fuel. Baby Got Back went.
It's a real shame but I think a lot of these 'sexy' 'tropes' should either be removed, or condensed.
These tropes should be strictly limited to In-Universe examples (as in, a character is repeatedly verbally described as having the given attribute), or have no examples at all. This is another trope that's just an excuse for people to talk dirty about celebrities in public.
I disagree. She's got legs does not necessarily equate to a sexy, but can also describe a leg that is masculant and strong, and can strongly hint at their battle style. making it ymmv is counterproductive in the long run.
Linking to a past Trope Repair Shop thread that dealt with this page: Why is this limited to long legs (Shes Got Legs)?, started by captainpat on Jul 26th 2011 at 11:13:33 PM
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThere should be more Gender inverted examples on this trope, I tried adding them to Male Anime characters but they ended up removed because they weren't focused on enough or "especially sexy". I dont mind people perving on fictional female characters legs or ankles but as long as male anime characters have the examples on their pages too. Talk about Male Gaze
IdidthiseditSome of the music entries are close to troping 'real people.' They often merely mention a person, without elaborating much. Should they be altered or removed? Or is that alright for this trope?
(Edit: I tried to clear out some examples without description. Some of those remaining might still seem vague.)
Edited by zeroflyingwherever "Hello. Casually, tell her that she's died."You learn something new every day. I wondered if it was a sort of snarky joke for the page header photo to be of someone who is clearly a bloke in full drag. (I mean. That's a man. Come on).
then I googled on the name "Cyd Charisse" to discover it is in fact a she - an old-time actress. Just not an awfully flattering photo.
Incidentally, is it me or is there an awful lot of drooling, slathering and general "Phwooar!" going in in the entries? not so much a trope as a list of Legs This Troper Finds Sexy And This Is Why?
Edited by AgProvOkay, we applied this trope to Laura Marano of Austin & Ally, but her sister Vanessa is older and taller, and doesn't have such bad legs herself. Is there any reason not to add it to Switched at Birth?
Hide / Show RepliesNo, because I do not see what Switched at Birth has to do with this.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanShe doesn't have legs.
How about "stalk people", mermaids, early South Park and first season Princess Bubblegum. You know characters in which the feet or legs are never drawn?
"Show us the Galaxy Warp." Hide / Show RepliesIt's the reverse of this trope, so will need a mention here.
And that is Snake People.
Edited by hcobb "Show us the Galaxy Warp."In the Tina Turner section, there's a line which reads "There's a video where we get a Between My Legs shot and the seams of her stockings are burning away like fuses to indicate how hot she is." I don't think that's Tina Turner. I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the Rolling Stones' "She Was Hot" video with actress Anita Morris.
re:cut
Just as we have the other two, we have this. They all stay or they all go. I'm also cottoning onto the fact that we have Costuming Tropes and guess what attributes they are meant to accentuate?
