Isntīt Supernatural an example of this? Lucifer and other angels are pissed at being Godīs second favorites and donīt understand what God sees in humanity. Also several villians will give a little speech(Pestilence for example) about how pathetic humans are just to be defeated by a human or in Pestilenceīs case by human means.

I think Blindsight by Peter Watts is an inversion of this trope. It turns out that the inhabitants of Rorschach are extremely intelligent but have no self awareness at all. The crew realizes that this is may actually be the normative for the evolution of intelligent life while humanity is just the exception. Sentience is just a sink on time and resources. So what makes humans special is more of a handicap.

Edit: Now that I think about it, an inversion would be if a non-human species was actually the special kind. This is more of a subversion.
