It's a video game trope. If you like, feel free to add a non-video game example in its own section at the bottom.

EDIT: In retrospect, how could there even be non-video game examples?

Another medium could have some sort of climatic moment where it appears the plot will be resolved, but then there's some kind of Plot Twist and it's not. Actually, a lot of stories could pull this off where you know the climatic moment isn't the end because you're only half-way through the running time or have a lot more pages to go, etc. (Unless there's another non-video game trope for this that I don't know about). So this trope really doesn't have to be exclusive to video games, and in fact, it probably predates them, and it's use in games is probably simply an extension of how it was used before.

With this trope, is it supposed to be obvious that there is more to the game after this dungeon? Given the title, it's supposed to be obvious even if only because you have more discs. This trope is being added to game pages whenever there's a fake-out final dungeon, but some or more obvious than others.

Is this trope regardless of how obvious it is there's more or not?

Does anyone know where one can get an image of Skull Castle 3 just after you beat Wily Machine #3 (Pin Machine)?
