I am looking for a trope to describe certain situation but can't seem to find it. Does anybody know if there is (and what's it's name) a trope about geniuine weakness that becomes useful thanks to another weakness?
Hide / Show RepliesI don't know, but the folks over at Lost And Found might.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Whatever happened to Crouching Scholar Hidden Badass? A lot of the examples would make more sense under that heading instead. I know it redirects, but the new trope is slightly different and gets conflated with Crouching Moron a ton.
Edited by Statalyzer Watch out where you step, or we'll be afoot.I would like to contest this example:
- The Order of the Stick. Xykon's Monster in the Darkness is this trope, acting childish all the time, but when he does show his power (often completely accidentally), he causes massive destruction.
That isn't this trope at all. Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass requires a change in personality when the character's powerup is triggered, but the MITD is always the same ditzy, placid creature regardless of whether or not it's accidentally causing earthquakes by stomping too hard. That's more an example of Does Not Know His Own Strength.
It seems the definition given is much more specific thsn the one used for the examples. The definiton used is "They look like a moron (or otherwise unimpressive) but are actually Bad Ass (or otherwise impressive)" but the one given is "...but actually have superpowers that activate in some situations, heralding a change of personality." Rather than removing all the examples, I'd suggest changing the definition to be broader, unless this concept is already covered somewhere else.
Hide / Show RepliesIt is. That would be Let's Get Dangerous! / Does Not Know His Own Strength.

Can this trope overlap with Bunny-Ears Lawyer?
