The author has no more rights whatsoever to trope a page, or make decisions about troping a page, than anybody else. Fewer, in fact, since they can't add YMMV tropes.

Put simply: Authors have no say over anything that happens to their TVT article. That includes who edits it. The article isn't their property, it's the wiki's.

So in other words, if the author tells me he wants me to stop editing their page and “move on”, they're out of line?

Like, honestly, this has to be the most ridiculous scenario I'm in right now; Same guy I spoke of from my last post.

Yeah, they have absolutely no right to do that and no power in this circumstance.

It's surreal that they actually think they do. Like, I'm not even laughing about it, and it's really indicative about this guy that he's going to this length, to personally make a TV Tropes account, just to lecture me about this. I'm just aghast right now.

Like, I don't have to be interested in a work to fix my errors or review it, and the fact that he thinks that his perception of reality gets to dictate that or that who's the most qualified to review his work is just...concerning...brutal honesty and sarcasm don't equate to hatred or bias, and making observations isn't "bad mouthing" or calling him anything despite what he thinks; it's just a statement and an observation, nothing more.

I even sent the mod present on the previous post (think his name was Fighter or something) what I had originally posted, and so far he still found nothing objectionable. All I can say at this point is the author of this comic needs to back off and get a grip...seriously; I already edited my comment and only did so that Chris would back off, and as far as I'm concerned, that's as much as I'm willing to do for him unless mods tell me otherwise.

The "page is ours" policy needs to be updated for people like that at some point, however, because an author ranting like a maniac to someone who says something they don't like and then trying to shoo away people from criticizing their work here shouldn't be acceptable. I've given him an inch and already he's trying to take a whole mile...

Well if he's lecturing you; over PMs I assume, then that is grounds for a talk with a mod.

It's kind of like how, if you're writing a critical analysis of a Wes Anderson movie, Anderson himself has no right to tell you what to write.

I've already spoken to Fighteer about this. We'll see if he gets involved.

Literally the first thing it said was "the fact that you are the creator of a work gives you no special rights over how that work is handled on this wiki", which forbids him from telling me to stop editing his page, and even after I showed him the policy prior to making this post? He still thinks he can tell me what to do!

What. The. Heck? Does he not read?

If the author asks someone else to make the edits they want due to The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours policy, that's still against the rules. One person asking another to make edits for them is a form of meatpuppetry (I linked to Wikipedia's page on the subject since I don't know if TV Tropes has one).

Yeah no, I know he's no authority to tell me if I can or cannot edit his page.

Honestly...I never thought he'd do this. It's honestly a long complicated story, but he thinks this is personal; truth is I've had these views for the longest time even when I was a fan of his, and I had every intention of posting them whether it happened or not.

It's YMMV for crying out loud...that's the entire point.

To be clear, I don't consider an author asking a troper to delete the page for them as meatpuppetry. That's just a bad request.

We don't have a meatpuppetry policy, although we generally treat bad edits on request like every bad edit and we sanction people for trying to circumvent bans that way (both the requester and any troper who acts on the request) and anything that looks deceptive.

The Author's been banned/suspended, most likely for his blackmail attempt in his first letter that he did to keep from being blocked, and Fighteer and I agreed for the sake of all else that it's best that I'm to abandon his page. Pity I didn't get to send him my letter, since it's against policy for me to respond to him anymore since he's banned; I guess it's for the best that I wasn't able to.

Business as usual I suppose. Water under the bridge.

Not gonna lie though, it's all so surreal; The fact that ScottyArtz thinks he gets to just waltz in here, act like he runs the place, and decide who is and isn't "qualified" to review his work, or that he can and tell me what to do without even considering the policy and then threaten me with a public spectacle because he didn't like what the YMMV said about his work says alot; I don't know what exactly the author thought was going to accomplish or how it'd make him look. One thing's for sure...It's quite clear that his idea of putting this behind us is getting his way and shutting down anything or anyone remotely critical of him. He literally proved my point...

I wish Mist didn't try to mention any sort of so-called "rumor" and just flat out stated the fact; it didn't look good on either of us and I got blamed for that VIA association fallacy. Still doesn't justify what the author did, and while I knew he'd hate the page at some point with my YMMV entries and brutally honest review, I never thought Chris would go and pull all that...that's not normal, at all.

What's depressing is the author probably still thinks he's the victim in all of this and that somehow this is some sort of "wrongdoing" on our part. The author's so worried about me making him and his friends look bad when he did a perfectly good job of that.

If one day I want to read chapter 4 just to criticize it, then I will. But for now? I stand by what I said in Mist's comment; I had always lost interest after reading the last two chapters...but that doesn't mean Chris gets to enforce that.

Either way, I'm done with this; this guy's been wasting my time and I've about had it; I'll have to make another thread for the user currently vandalizing the page. Any idea how to lock a thread? Or is that an admin thing only?

Threads on ATT can either just be allowed to die or can be locked by a mod should they deem it necessary.

In any case, I think this has been resolved.
