An Invoked Trope version of Exact Eavesdropping, I think.
It might be worth taking this to Trope Launch Pad to see if you can make it a trope. I remember Spacetrawler pulled a similar scene—in this case, it was engineered so some jailers could release two prisoners, and trick the prisoners into thinking they had just escaped on their own.
There's a situation in Gothic where the player character and his friend have to stage a purposefully exaggerated and loud conversation in order to trick a certain NPC into speaking with the player. The context is that the player wants to join a faction, and in order to join it, he has to get the approval of several specific NPCs; the problem is that the newcomers are not allowed to speak to them, so the engineered conversation is meant to trick one of them into thinking that the player got a vision from their god, making the NPC speak to the player and subsequently give their approval.
What trope best describes this situation?
