I've actually never been 100 percent clear on whether a Trope Namer is supposed to be the first thing ever to name the trope, or just whatever the trope page's creator happened to be thinking of. The latter is highly arbitrary, but the former is unverifiable (at least in most cases).

Looks like it was added about a month ago by Drope.

This strikes me as way too generic to have been named after anything in particular.

^ Seconded. I remember thinking the same thing way back when I removed the claim that Pokémon was the Namer for Energy Ball.

^^ Yeah, seems hard to say it's named after anything specific, even if some works literally call this shop "Secret Shop"

Honestly the first Legend of Zelda game had secret shops, but are they the first known case in video game history? I honestly have no idea and that's not getting into what game would be the "codifier" of the concept.

I would cut the FE entry as inaccurate since there's no definitive proof regarding which video game had the first actual secret shop let alone codifying the concept.

^^^^^^^ crazysamaritan removed Trope Namer from Precrime Arrest specifically because "not copying Minority Report deliberately when I worked on the YKTTW" so there is precedent for having namer as only the work that inspired the title

(then Saveelich readded it for some reason but that is besides the point)

I sent him a PM, but he hasn't replied yet.

I'd like to apologize for all this.

Okay, I finally got a response. I asked him if it was okay if I shared his explanation on this thread, and he said yes.

"I can confirm the term 秘密の店 exists in the very first Fire Emblem back from 1990. Non-videogame examples tend to be more supernatural affairs and the use of secret is not really used (usually, it's something like "Mystery Shop")."

Considering what jormis said above, I believe this shows that this isn't actually a Trope Namer.

I'd like to apologize for all this.

Also, the Trope Namer isn't always the very first instance of the concept appearing, but rather the most famous or iconic time it appears.

Also, I'm positive the concept of a Secret Shop appears in pre-1990s games and even tabletop gaming before that. The Legend of Zelda had merchants that you had to find by bombing/burning certain secret spots to get to, and thats from 1986.

^ The maker or popularizer of the concept of the trope is covered by Trope Maker and Trope Codifier respectively. We're only talking about names here.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

From the Trope Namer page:

A series usually gets to name a trope if it's so widely known for the trope (even outside the circle of nerds) it's basically an icon of it, or if it has a term for the situation that is simply Made Of Win.
