I'm glad they are still involving the other DR actors in That Guy With The Glasses after all. What they're actually doing seems to be hush-hush but I just want to see the two again.

I liked Demo Reel but at the end of Blue Patches I was like "So where's the story going to go now?" Tacoma and Rebecca have shown themselves to be competent filmakers meaning that the next season probably wouldn't get any laughs from the movies. Storywise there seems to be a lot to explore in Tacoma and Rebecca's backstory but there wasn't any hints so far in how they'd integrate that in the present.

I'm definitely sad to see the show ended and the characters written out, but the explanation given actually did make a twisted kind of sense. And I am happy to see the Nostalgia Critic back... Just Demo Reel being cancelled outright is hard to take.

Where did Doug say he's keeping the DR actors in his future reviews?

I just wish that Doug wouldn't go against so many viewers' expectations all the time! Doug announced the Critic was ending, and we dealt with it! Now he's bringing the Critic back, and possibly ending the new show that only last three and a half months? Is it because we're so conditioned to watching network shows and movies that we expect the same kind of decisions from independent internet producers too, who never have any set plan at all? How would you feel if the Disney Company just gave up making movies?

He needs to COM-MU-NI-CATE. With us.

Here's what I came up with when I assumed there'd be more: Tacoma's backstory, Rebecca's backstory, filling in some gaps with Donnie's, more character interaction, learning more about his wife, keeping on trying to make good movies, more detail in Karl's history, giving Quinn more character than just being Irish, and whatever they were going to do with Lindsay and Lewis appearing.

@ CPF

Which is why I think it would be best if the site was reorganized, if not disbanded.

This goes back to JO's "self-projection" on her SA posts. She voted to nuke Desu Brigade and start fresh, but they opted to keep doing what they're doing, ad infinitum.

Doug has painted himself in a corner and probably believes that people rely on him for their livelihood.

I don't know the statistics or hit counts, but I check blip for updates from everyone, or better yet this thread. If TGWTG went blooey wouldn't those hits just roll over to blip or other platforms?

I'm a skeptical squirrel

Speaking of reorganizing, I realize Michaud is busy, but it would be a little nice for him to tell us what the hell's going on with the redesign plan that he assured us was for realsies this time.

I really hope this redesign involves a serious marketing campaign for TGWTG and its other contributors.

There were site traffic stats linked earlier in the thread and from what I understand the TGWTG site was still getting a pretty reasonable amount of hits - at least up until when Doug finished the Nostalgia Critic and opted to start his other projects. Footfall seemed to spike a little every so often but it was definitely down on pre-DR levels.

I don't know why Doug couldn't just bring Demo Reel back as a 'special' thing akin to how he was originally going to keep the NC around. Just make an episode or two every so often - it gives him and the others more time to work on content and formatting as well as freeing him up for more NC or new projects.

I think Channel Awesome as a company needs to work on communicating with fans better in general. Was there an article on the TGWTG site about this big change? If so, I never saw anything because the section is buried in the middle of the list of directories, and no one said anything. I never see Mike post anything online himself.

[up] Yes, communication with fans is something sorely lacking within the upper echelons of TGWTG staff and producers, everything from a new site design to different/new types of content have been mentioned as 'coming' and then never brought up again.

By now, "when is the new site redesign coming" has become as memetic as saying as "Are we still on Namek?"

In the SA thread he said it was in "phase two", whatever that means.

I can understand where the awkwardness of running the company comes from—Michaud went directly from laid-off Circuit City employee to CEO—but he and the rest of the CA management haven't seemed to grow much in the last 4-1/2 years.

Groovy.

Just watched TRMGO. I'm glad that the Critic is back, but did he ever say he;s cancelling Demo Reel? That's kind of sad, especially since he was so phyched to make it in the first place. I do hope he's keeping the other actors around if DR is cancelled. Maybe they'll be side characters in the Nostalgia Critic show?

My guess is that Douchey will have a Pet the Dog moment and let them out back into the Awesomeverse. I just hope Doug doesn't leave the characters hanging, because the end left a bad taste in my mouth by just dismissing them as dreams.

[up] He never explicitly stated that Demo Reel was being cancelled but a Nostalgia Critic episode every two weeks with 'possibly a mini-episode every other week' doesn't really leave much room for something like Demo Reel. One of the high-ups at TGWTG said that they had 'plans' involving the Demo Reel cast but that's about it.

I never really liked NC that much, I like characters in Demo Reel and I do find new episode good, but I dislike what he decided to do with Demo Reel.

Looking at reactions over the internet, it really depresses me that the critical ones are the one in the minority. The typical reaction is"Yay! NC is back bitches derp!", with no concern that Doug is just sell out (which he is) for doing this.

I can't imagine he's only listening to the "woo, the king has returned" comments. He's beaten himself up for other people getting sunburned in Kickassia, and God knows negative comments stick out better than positives.

Yeah, people keep saying he's only doing this because NC is where the money is. I, personally, feel that that's a needlessly cynical take on it. I mean, yes, the money probably is a factor. He's human, after all. But I see no reason to assume that the reasons he gave in the video aren't also true.

When you're trying to balance art, media and business I think you have to accept that there's being a sell-out and then there's making a competent business decision.

Ending the NC wasn't a good decision from a business perspective, even if it was a good decision from an artistic one, because it provided a lot of the traffic and revenue for TGWTG.

[up][up] This. Why is it automatically assumed he's doing it purely for money or to appease sore fans, Hideo Kojima style? Whether he did the right thing is debatable, but I think if he didn't really want to do it, he wouldn't have.

If "selling out" means Doug doesn't have to sleep in a cardboard box and live off of stale ramen noodles, good on him.
