Plus being awful but creepily nice like Annie was.

But Annie was the only one in that cabin, whereas here, there's a whole family acting obsessive. I suppose it's a shallow parody.

Ha! I was right! Misery parody! A loose one, but still.

Great episode. I really liked it. I guess the SWAG subplot is over for now.

The commentary felt like a bit of both Mara Wilson and the Nostalgia Critic, honestly.

I got that too, especially remembering Critic's own rants in To Boldly Flee about his negative impact on everyone.

Both the movies they watched were parodies of Jake Lloyd movies. And when Doug was giving his "I gave a bad performance" speech, that's who I was thinking about. I always felt bad for that kid. Like Doug said, he doesn't deserve all that scorn for being a little kid once and giving a bad performance.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.

The family is clearly a poke at all those fans who think that child actors stay the same way forever, or at the least, never consider whether or not they like the films they appeared in years ago. People tend to forget that stars aren't dieties- they're human beings altered to the whim of other people who have a hand in creating the work they appear in. Most actors have no control over how the movie winds up being.

Judging from the backgrounds, the actors appear to obsess over Axis Powers Hetalia and other anime instead. :D

That was the most powerful episode to date, if you ask me. The "Blue Patches" segment very nearly had me choking up, even.

Well I quite loved this episode.

Everything clicked well but I'm a little disappointed they resolved the SWAG subplot so early, although since they let the leader get away. They could come back. On a similar note does the main characters know why SWAG were targeting them? Cause based off my obversations, they didn't.

Donnie's backstory was tragic and surprising. I knew his mother played massively into it but him being a Former Child Star (and parody of Jake Lloyd of all people) caught me unexpectedly. Although hearing Arnold's accent made some Mood Whiplash inthe serious bits.

I also forgot that the Hangover plot was still going, since I became so accustomed to the colour of the camera when Tacoma and Rebecca were working. Once the black and white came back, I just had this Oh moment. ;)

Overall it was a fine ep that like the previous episodes, improved massively in the plot and jokes while staying serious.

(Also I'd really love to see Mara's thoughts on this....and see make an onscreen appeaance as Donnie's wife in a future episode)

Anybody else expected Carl and Donnie to meet up in the forest?

It was a good episode, I guess the commentary here is not let interests become obsessions, and learn when you have to move on.

And I know they had the idea for Demo Reel for a long while, but I keep feeling that they have changed a lot of what they originally enviosioned, I'm probably wrong but that's kinda how it feels to me.

I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.

[up] I don't know about that. From Doug's convention talking about wanting more drama and putting the Twilight episode on the sidelines, it sounds like the previous few episodes is more in line with what they wanted and not the first one.

It took me a second viewing to catch that Tom actually DID destroy the drive containing the sequel to Blue Patches. That's a sad shame. Donnie would've loved them for it, I bet. :(

Does Doug know that Tom Collins is also a name used in the musical Rent?

I'm a bit upset they didn't use Carl for too much in this, but, then, since Rob is the primary writer, maybe he didn't want to make it seem like he's hogging too much time.

And that speech that Donnie gives while captive is going on my metaphorical wall of amazing quotes.

Also, I need to wonder...wouldn't they have the file on the computer? I mean, Tacoma was playing the clips from the desktop, and even then, they probably have the raw files from filming to reedit it together and the script that they wrote and gaaaaaaah.

Oh yeah, I just remembered—the guy who played Adam was one of the film crew that the Executor promised the Cinema Snob in To Boldly Flee. The pyrotechnics guy, I think.

And I only just realized in the middle of this episode that that was The Last Angry Geek that played the stereotypical Italian American mafiosi (who is apparently so stereotypical that he can't even pronounce "marinara" the way a real Italian American would).

Speaking of cameos, Doug brought up in France (may have been another con, he went to so many) that Lewis and Lindsay would like to guest star as someone other than their usual characters. Might be fun to see if they'd be able to pull that off.

Indeed it would! Much as I love Demo Reel, at times it seems like a wholly separate endeavour from the rest of Channel Awesome, and a few choice cameos could help lend it a sense of continuity. Besides, if they were as entertaining as the cameos we've already seen, I'd be all for 'em!

I been watching Rachel's vlog (she has 2 so far). Apparently, she's from California, used to be a blonde, plays guitar, and initially wanted to do sports before acting. And she's a peach. :3

I loved her answer to "do you have a boyfriend?": "No I do not have a boyfriend and am accepting applications, resumes and head shots."

Lindsay posted the Chez Apocalypse Magfest Panel last night. A few interesting things, like a maybe on the Rocky Horror Picture Show crossover and that she's doing a review of 50 Shades Of Grey.

I think they did the smart thing by avoiding cameos in the first five episodes, letting Demo Reel stand on its own and establishing the characters and premise. But now that the first story arc is (apparently) over, now would be the perfect time to start crossing over with other Channel Awesome shows.

Groovy.
