You know, after seeing your use of "double-edged sword," I just have to quote this part from Tyranny:
Back to Monster Hunter Stories, I'm currently debating whether I should just advance the story or grind my Red Khezu a bit more and try to take on the Pink Rathian near Gildegaran. Does anyone know if the Pink Rathian you have to fight for a quest given by the Hunter's Guild is stronger than the average Pink Rathian or weaker?
Stronger. Oh so very stronger. I had trouble with her once I got the monster from the plot events after reaching Rank 4. It took reaching around level 30, using 50 defense armor, the level 1 Khezu GS, and a poison immunity talisman to beat her.
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownGotcha. It's one of the first quests given by the three Hunter Guild Sweethearts, but as a Shin Megami Tensei player, I'm all too aware that games will sometimes throw you quests you should really wait a bit before trying to tackle.
speaking of the pink rathian
i have a new quest to deal with one of those
also a quest to deal with 2 high rank rathians
and ive decided im gonna make the yuan kut ku armor before i do
...
unfortunately the kut ku armor has a wide variety of animal parts involved and the hardest part is, oddly enough, grinding small monster parts. i wish small monsters respawned more reliably. or at all.
where the hell does a velociprey spawn. i thought it'd be in the dunes but thats just genprey. not in the primal forest either...at this point im just running through expeditions until i start seeing them again.
Like I said earlier, the Red Khezu apparently makes the fight actually winnable when you get the quest, assuming you're smart about it.
Also, a couple of my earlier fights against that Unique Pinky let me figure out how game overs work, at least in dens: they dump you back out when you lose your third heart, with no real penalty whatsoever.

Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownOkay, here's a few useful resources for Stories.
First off, there's a FAQ on Gamefaqs with pictures of every egg pattern and color scheme for every monster.
Second, also on Gamefaqs, but this time on the game's board, is a list of which eggs you can find in what area.
Finally... Kiranico does indeed have a database for Stories, covering... basically everything you want to know (or, in other words, the usual for the site). Well, mostly; I haven't seen the answers for the Riddle or Quiz sidequests on there, but that's what Google and Gamefaqs are for.
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownTried taking on the Pink Rathian with my Red Khezu. Turns out the paralysis ailment really is unreliable, since the Pink Rathian was still able to spam her flame breath no matter how many times my Red Khezu inflicted the paralysis ailment on her.
whelp.
finally fought the pink rathian. pain in the ass, it was so bad i had to quit first attempt cuz i kept being poisoned every few seconds. thankfully after respecing my decorations i managed to get 20+ fire res AND negate poison, which made it a helluva lot more survivable. and i think expert helped me kill it faster. for a high rank monster's first appearance it lasted only about 12 minutes, surprisingly.
incidentally, i love the sword and shield. ive started maining it because its just so convenient. easy to position yourself, relatively easy to mount, auto-guard as an active skill is a life-saver for a plebian like myself, and honestly in spite of the damage rating it seems to get through monsters are a fairly reasonable pace.
i do think i need to make a good gunner armor set and bow soon though. dont really wish to fight a seltaz with melee. a seltaz queen sounds like a pain in the ass too, if only for the respawning seltaz it calls for.

Stories progress. Wished the plot event in the second half of the Jungle area actually was that easy, but of course we can't have nice things. (I really want to kill those two. You can guess who they are if you're far enough in the story.)
And now back to the Hills... where every generic encounter is Blighted?! Joy... At least they drop a lot of sellable loot; even if it's only 100 zenny stuff, 17 items from a single battle isn't something to sneeze at.
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownGood news, the "everything in the Hills is blighted" thing isn't permanent.
Bad news, getting that far unlocks new monsters basically everywhere. That includes everyone's favorite wandering pickle, and he even gets the ability to interrupt fights with other monsters (to absolutely no one's surprise, except yours the first time it happens).
Worse news, what I'm assuming is the run up to the final boss makes you fight blighted versions of the Stygian Zinogre, the Brachydios, and a Deviljho (although you do get the chance to backtrack and heal in between them). Fun, huh?

Looks like it has something of a story. I dunno if I want a story :P

MH 4 U had a story, which was nice.
And I'm in a big dilemma now: I'm interested in this collector's edition, but things like that take a month to get here. If MHW goes out on January 26, then that means it'll get here by the end of February, and I don't think I'll have much time to play from March on. Buying the digital version would solve that issue, but I miss out on the cool stuff like the artbook and the figure. :(
... And that's called jazz!wonder when pc version will come out, or if it will have cross play
I stopped getting collector's editions of games, I never get much enjoyment out of the extras. Sorta tempted by the preorder bonuses though, though preordering seems to be an uncool thing to do these days, at least among my circle of friends :P
The probability of crossplay with Sony involved is roughly... none.
A giant honduran bat monster?
Incredible.
I know, right? :D
It's a bit of an odd choice for something like Monster Hunter, since they're pretty much the cutest and least intimidating bats imaginable◊, but it makes for an interesting creature design. Wonder if all that fluff is incorporated into how it fights?

I've been thinking for some time... Maybe it's time to change the title of the thread, what with us getting into the Fifth Generation and all. Maybe "Monster Hunter General Thread" would be more appropriate?

... And that's called jazz! We’re definitely overdue for a name change. Just axe the Tri bit and make it “Monster Hunter General Discussion.”
I admit I have no idea of how to do it, though. Should we call an admin or something like that?
... And that's called jazz!I think so.
I tried calling a mod a long while ago about it (back when Generations came out) and no one did anything so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeMods aren't always on 24/7, so maybe try again and see if they'll respond this time?
Should a specific mod be called or can we contact any?
... And that's called jazz!
On the other hand, no more running to the other area to recover safely. It's a double-edged sword. :(
