I thought everyone had basically written that leak off as fake?

[up]I think we did, but the ideas in the leak were just too fun to not to talk about in a "What if?" manner.

[up][up] Maybe, but it's still worth discussing if the ideas themselves have any merit.

Personally, I like some of them, but they seem a touch too edgelord-ish for my taste, although that's just my impression of them.

For me, I like gothic horror, so the idea of "Gothic Horror Emblem" is a very amusing one for me. I remember when the "leak" was first posted, I joked about getting one of the Bloodborne designers to design dragons for the setting and having vampires based on the the Strix (which also led to the hilarious reply of "Nos-Feh-Ratu").

The Gothic Emblem sounds interesting, but I am personally hoping for a narrative that is a Cosmic Horror Story initially disguised as a typical Fire Emblem story. Two kingdoms quarreling with each other inadvertently unleashes a Sealed Evil in a Can: a powerful Eldritch Abomination which proceeds to unleash the incomprehensible and horrific terrors that cripples both kingdoms. Both kingdoms and their people must deal with a raging abomination beyond their comprehension as well as reflect upon their own issues that led up to the unleashing of the abomination.

I don't think it's 100% fake but it's certainly not likely. The only thing that keeps it even mildly possible for me is how detailed it is but even that's not really much proof of anything.

In any case, I somewhat suspect we might hear something on the 18th considering that's when it was first announced a year ago.

[up][up]I'm not sure Cosmic Horror Story would work that well in Fire Emblem, considering that one of the main themes of the series is "working together to achieve victory," while Cosmic Horror Story usually goes with "There is no victory. Now sit down, go insane, and let the aliens eat your brains."

An interesting idea though.

I rather like Fire Emblem remaining medieval fantasy, even if that's all that RP Gs tend to be.

What I want story-wise is a game that starts out as your typical "the good, kind nation that worships the Holy Dragon is being invaded by the evil, ruthless nation that worships the Evil Dragon" plot, but then starts to deconstruct the setting part-way through as you find the conflict is more grey than anticipated, and by the end of the game you're fighting the Holy Dragon and its legions of light-magic-using priests as the true villains and final antagonists.

You know, basically doing a better job of the whole "morally-ambiguous conflict" thing we were promised with Fates but never actually got.

Radiant Dawn practically already did that, what with the whole fighting a group of corrupt holy men and their insane light goddess.

I do hope that the next Fire Emblem game brings some cool dragon designs or new types of dragons. Maybe they can collaborate with the people behind the Monster Hunter games to come up with new dragons.

Me, I'm still waiting for the innocent, peaceloving kingdom of wyverns and dark mages to be invaded out of nowhere by vicious armies of light mages and pegasus riders. Come on IS, it had to have happened at some point.

Honestly, I hope Malig Knights return in future games. A magic-slinging warrior riding a demonic wyvern is too cool not to reuse.

Hey, here's an idea: maybe we can have phoenix riders. They'll have Resistance up the wazoo (as in even higher than Pegasus riders) because they need it to ride birds that are on fire.

Not that I disagree with the original point or anything but I would just like to point out that the people who the main characters thought were the good guys turning out to actually be bad guys is not true moral ambiguity by itself. Sorry that's just a pet peeve of mine.

Personally, I think grey morality is overrated and the occasional Noble Demon is sufficient in many cases.

Let the dragons be part of the political process. Maybe not the king or object of worship, just advisors or bodyguards. Let there be a publicly known manakete kingdom that everyone trades with. Integrate them into society more if they're going to inevitably take over the plot by the end.

Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.

When I read this, my mind was still on Malig Knights and I immediately thought of a zombie dragon writing at a desk.

You are the manakete nation, viciously invaded by light mages on a "holy crusade" of some sort. They have found some way to seal the power of dragonstones. Only the main character and the Jagen were fortunate enough to have escaped this fate, so the rest of their troops need to learn to use human weapons like total newbs.

I might have said this idea once, but I once had an idea for one story where there once was a Light Dragon who was keeping the continent as a scorched desert until a Shadow Dragon game and started protecting the people from the Light Dragon's light until the two of them killed each other. It is basically forgotten history outside of one clan (what might have been dead for long time until someone rediscovered their writings).

Cue present day, where the Big Bad ruler gets a prophecy that the Light Dragon might come back and only way to stop it is with the Fire Emblem, which can only be created with power of three weapons created from the Shadow Dragon's corpse and given to three kingdoms, and only way to awaken the weapons is if they are truly needed. Cue Zero-Approval Gambit where the ruler tries to start a war with the other two kingdoms so that they will awaken their weapons. The twist is that there never was any prophecy, and it was a ruse to create the Fire Emblem to awaken the Light Dragon.

Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!
