Conquest Gunter is actually far from being sucky. His new bases are suuuuuper cheaty (he either hacked the game or mugged a rather sizable amount of water zombies for their stat boosters, because some of his stats go up more points than he gained levels) and capable of letting him survive combat against stuff as far as and including C25 on Lunatic. He's also got very strong utility and makes an epic pair-up bot for Corrin. His growths are still garbage, but that doesn't stop him from doing his job.

Yeah, Gunter can contribute just fine in Conquest.

He's less valuable in Revelation, though.

Conquest Gunter is one of the best units in the game.

I wonder if Switch will be another "Waifu Emblem". As stated earlier, Dialga got the kids first, Palkia got them second, now it's Giritima's turn to give us the kids.

[up]Is Giritima the long-lost relative of Giratina or something like that?

Serious answer: probably going to need to wait and see. If they do go the "lots of S-rank options for an Avatar" route, I hope they use CG confessions instead of the "live models" in Fates. I liked the CGs in Awakening.

My biggest question is whether Pegasus Knights and Fighters will remain unisex from here on out. I hope so. Charlotte as a Berserker is awesome.

Also, bring back the Ninja class and put Pirates in the next game. Pirates vs. Ninjas, people!

I'd assume so- Based on certain bits in Heroes, Fates seems to be the new standard mechanically.

I have serious doubts about Pirate making a return, especially since they're practically identical to Bandits, which became Barbarians in Awakening. But, if Barbarians come back (along with Ninja) and they're functionally the same, the match-up is still happening in spirit, right? tongue

Especially if we keep getting Custom Uniform units. A Barbarian or even Barbarian army designation that uses a more pirate-y design doesn't seem farfetched.

... So guys, here's a question .Do you think it'd be a good or bad thing if future games used manual combat skills as they are in Echoes? Like, perhaps something like a hybrid of the Awakening/Fates setup and Gaiden's skills? Everyone gets a Citizen skill, a number of passive skill slots, and a smaller number of slots for skills like Sol?

I sure said that!

I imagine Pirates will probably make a return. People like Geese were extremely popular in Japan too.

Even in games, where it isn't a class, its still a profession.

It'd also be interesting if Pirate and Brigand were in the same promotion line. Berwick Saga had some interesting ideas in that they gave the pirate class abilities related to stealing.

I'd be up for another game game where your character starts off as a commoner and end the game as a sovereign, whether it be because you S-ranked someone from the royal family or discover that you're actually related to some blue blood...bonus points if you find out right as their blue blood is all over your hand and sword. Yes, I know I just described Alm's story...

I actually really like Echoes' skills system and Wexp implementation, so I wouldn't mind that coming back. Or some kind of hybrid of Awakening/Fates' passive skills with Echoes' manual skills.

Anyway, re: Gunter, Conquest Gunter is amazing and remains useful into endgame even with his shitty growths, because he's got such good base stats. Last Conquest run I even married Gunter and we were an amazing team. Even once his attacking power starts to fall off, he remains a very sturdy and very mobile shield. Revelation Gunter joins much earlier, and as a result becomes utterly useless as anything other than a backpack for Corrin by midgame. And he can't even support in that route.

It's kinda silly that a Gunter-sired Kana is so bad since he inherits Gunter's bad growth rates. Like, genetically speaking, a Gunter-sired Kana should be really good since Gunter's gotta have pretty good genes to remain that strong and skilled (and virile) into old age.

The Arts in Echoes feel worthles half the time outside of the ones with a major accuracy boost or when you need to secure a safe killing blow with a single attack. You can't double with them, and doubling with normal attacks usually deals more damage. Armorcrush and Grounder in particular are hugely Useless Useful Spells.

And the ones that are good stradle the line of being totally overpowered, like Double Lion.

Yes, well, I'd certainly hope for more balanced skills. I just meant I like the idea of manually selecting certain techniques.

Awakening and Fates only really gives us that in the form of the Rally skills and certain personal skills.

Speaking of Echoes' skills, is there a finite number of skills a unit can learn? Or if I'm patient, can I have them master every compatible weapon and shield?

I don't think there's a finite number you can learn, but I'm not sure.

Also, you can only use a weapon's Art when that weapon is equipped.

Yeah, like, every unit has two Art slots to go with their five Skill slots, with manually activated Arts like the Sol-Luna-Astra sorts being learned from weapons and passive effect Skills learned from certain levels in classes.

Also finally hitched up Corrin and Camilla, which was thankfully less squicky than I feared. The reveal they'd had a mutual crush since childhood but didn't want to act on it because they though they were related but now know they aren't related so why not? was pretty cute, I thought.

So, I've finally gotten to Act IV of Echoes.

Damn, this is some good map music. Nice and foreboding, which fits when you see all of the foreboding locations that lie ahead, as well as all of the major antagonists that have popped up on the map.

By the way, I seem to have gotten into the infamous Zero-Approval Gambit plot now. It's weird because the plan does actually make sense, but it's quite an about-face for Corrin, and thus far I think I liked the "Pacifist Run of an actual war" angle better.

Awakening Chapter 3: Warrior Realm

So, we reach the gate to Regna Ferox, and we are greeted with suspicion. So, the battle began, but first, I got a chance to prepare. I had Frederick be the odd man out for this fight. I do have one question about him, though. Is he a "pseudo-prepromote" (i.e. like Gunter, Felicia, and Jakob in Fates were), or just a straight up archetypal early-game prepromote?

Anyway, Sumia and her pegasus join the fray here, as well as Kellam the Knight, who was apparently there the whole time and just didn't get noticed until now. On the first turn of the fight, I sent Sumia to the foes in the southeast corner of the map along with a few other units, only for them to ignore the others and dogpile her, taking her out. Good thing I'm playing in Casual Mode. Other than that, the boss of this chapter was a lot sturdier than I'd anticipated. My units' physical weapons barely did any damage. I fared better with magic, but a poorly timed miss on my part on an attack that would've finished her off resulted in Raimi instead taking out Miriel on the Enemy Phase. Then, on my next Player Phase, I finished her off and earned passage into Regna Ferox for the Shepherds.

Heroes: Me and Stahl

Back on the World Map, I see that I've now unlocked the ability to shop at the sites of completed chapters, as well as the game's Wireless features, most notably all the goodies from the Bonus Box. I've taken all of the Legendary Weapons from past games into my inventory, though it will still be a while before anyone gets high enough weapon ranks to use them. I've also added the Bonus Box missions to the World Map, though it looks like I'll have a ways to go before I can attempt them. I'm still not sure what "Double Duel" is, or what the Bonus Box content for it is like. Finally, the sheer numbers of Legendary Heroes I could add to the map was a bit overwhelming. All the stuff from the Bonus Box is a lot to take in.

The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever.

Double Duel is a weird local wireless multiplayer game- The extras in the Bonus Box for it are all extra maps for that mode alone.

The key thing about summoning Legendary Heroes isn't that they can be hired through payment or by defeating them in combat- It's that they're the best source for unusual weapons in the game. If a weapon is named for one of the heroes, they'll have it in their list of stuff to buy from them upon summoning them, and they also have early access to rarities like Levin Swords and Short Axes and Spears and the like.

I sure said that!

I've mentioned before I would like a crossover between Pokémon and Fire Emblem, but do you know what other crossover I would be fine with? Fire Emblem x 7th Dragon.

For those who aren't familiar with 7th Dragon, it's about a group of people trying to save their world from being taken over by dragons. The dragons spread a deadly disease through flowers known as Dragonsbane, and the strongest of these dragons are known as True Dragons, of which there are seven in total.

The crossover can have seven True Dragons based on bosses in Fire Emblem. We can have the True Dragons Medeus, Duma, Loptyr, Idunn, Fomortiis, Ashera, and, of course, the most powerful dragon of all, the one that not even the gods dare rile: the Seventh Dragon RNG.
