Corrin gets overleveled super easily anyway.

I can confirm that Corrin does gain levels like crazy, even in Lunatic Conquest.

Speaking of that, I have been acquinted with CAPTAIN GORDON, DEFENDER OF EARTH! Arthur in the chapter that had faceless upon faceless all with that Grissly Wound or whatever it was called, he fell with my apparent childhood friend who I suspect has a crush on Male!Avatar...

Anyhow, they go on about how "they will retreat" but then at my astral plane castle the unit records state them as "reitred?"

3DS charging right now, but I'm suspecting that they are practically dead, except that they are required for some cutscenes down the line, but I still can't use them in battle?

Man, this is gonna suck, with my tiny platoon already being cut down by 30% just when I got it up to 6 people!

I suppose I'll keep going for now, until I snap and restart, because I'm not sure if turning the difficulty down will help much if my "army" gets permanently reduced to like four people.

Yup. If a character "dies" in classic mode, but has importance in custcenes later on, they don't die. Also any parent units also have this going on as well.

Figured as much, but thatnks for the confirm.

Wellp, guess I am already down a Fighter and a Cavalier.

So far so good...?

On a side note, the addition of being able to lower the difficulty between chapters, but not increase it back up sounds like a brilliant addition. More games should have a feature like it. Not that I have used it yet, but it does sound like a good idea to have in a game as an option.

I mean, being able to change it back upwards just seems like you could do a cheap cop-out by "beating the game" on a "high difficulty" despite using a lower difficulty for half the way through. But that's just a rambling thought.

I disagree. I feel like players should be able to change difficulty as they please, like in Bravely Default/Second.

Nah. Lowering the difficulty for one tough chapter or two is kind of a cop out.

I feel that way too, but I think policing on how other people want to play games is even worse.

Like maybe I just want to increase the difficulty for a chapter because there's an important boss fight

Maybe I'm having too tough a time with a chapter, but I still want to play on a high difficulty but if i keep trying this I'm gonna get frustrated and quit altogether.

Maybe I just want to relax for a bit

By allowing people to shift difficulties as they please they can get the experience that is best for them. It's not impacting how you play either, so why does it matter?

Maybe I'm halfway old fashioned in thinking that it should be somewhat of a commitment, but I do understand how annoying it would be to start an entire game from the beginning just because you wanted to turn the difficulty down.

But I suppose for completionism/bragging/Video Game Achievements reasons you could have the ability to make it go up and down and all around mid campaign, but you wouldn't get your awesome but useless reward if you fiddled with it before beating the game or something.

But this seems like I'm derailing. So far, Nohr Prince Geist, the ever grumpy and/or tired looking "short" dragon man has made it through the Forlorn Forest and both unmemorable childhood friend and SIR ARTHUR, ALLY OF JUSTICE! are both out of comission.

Fucking Grissly Wound and all that other shit.

That's his name!

And I wasn't trying, but those damn faceless were fucking everywhere and the only one who was able to dispatch them with any effecience was myself or myself paired with anyone with enough STR and SPD.

The dumb grissly wound on every single one of them meant that if my troops didn't kill them in one attack, my troops lost 20% HP on their own turn. And I only had two healers and they were dying too and the Fruit Knife sort of helped but then Felicia learned "Live to Serve" after two people died and GGGRRRGH.

...

I'm still having an odd version of "fun" though. Probably because I'm going in blind and everything is a surprise.

And this is my first FE game where skills are a thing.

Yes, Corrin gains EXP fast, but it does kind of help to have that leg up going into the next few chapters since almost everyone else who shows up is going to be at base (and a few more stat points sooner rather than later, when stats are barely breaking 10 for most people can make a difference, especially on Lunatic).

Fox: As for letting too many units die, yes, if you continue on that trend, you will get into trouble, and I can tell exactly where that's going to be.

I still think I should have control of the difficulty; I may want to have my leveled units tested in an amped up Endgame or skirmish, and, seeing Fates seems to lack a The Future Past/Apotheosis equivalent, welp, yeah...

Fox: That map really wants the player to find a single choke-point rather than sticking where everyone spawns. Either that or bring a bunch of Vulneraries, anyway. Healing can get really tight if the enemies aren't funneled.

And, if Grizly Wounds was getting on your nerves, I think it'll be interesting to read your reaction to the next three chapters' skill configurations. evil grin

On the topic of adjustable difficulty...

I think that it should be possible to change the difficulty as you want, but the sticker you get at the end of the game is based on the lowest difficulty you've played at.

The original Infamous had an achievement for beating the game on max difficulty, but it had "On the fly" adjustable difficulty. To make it so it wasn't possible that the only challenge was the final boss, they made it so that it wouldn't be granted if you reduced the difficulty at any point.

I don't think I'll ever adjust the difficulty. Hard is at the right point for me: it's a challenge, but I'm not going to pull my hair out over it, and it's still possible to ship who you'd prefer. If it was like Bravely Default's hard mode, then you'd be screwed unless you used a 100% broken strategy, in which case it would be possible unless the RNG didn't like you.

Kid Icarus Uprising's difficulty slider is the best way to do difficulty imo. The game allows you do choose whatever difficulty you feel comfortable at, but rewards you for choosing to play on a higher difficulty.

I don't like that one, but that might simply be a byproduct of me not liking the games it's appeared in.

You know, I don't think I ever learned why Hinoka keeps Setsuna as a retainer. There's some supports I should probably get.

I think Hard Mode Perks in general is a good incentive when done well.

So, I'm doing a session of that awesome Hunger Games Simulator, and I have Garon as well as his different forms all as separate characters. As you can tell, Hilarity Ensues. About to do another one, but should I give this gif it's own slot and call it Sexy Garon to continue the madness even further?evil grin

(For the record, all the other slots are filled with FE avvies I've made for that Troper Team project as well as ones I've made for my bond units. As well as some random memes. Yes, Haitaka and Rallyman are there too.)

Really? I mean, I can see why you'd not want someone who's bad with a bow if you're a sky knight, but...

Now I have to see what her supports with Takumi are like as well.

I don't care much for KIU and SSB's intensity scale. At least not the "boot you to lower difficulty for dying" part.

And Setsuna is really good. She has the misfortune of being in the same route as Tacomeat and his Foo Gin You Me, though.

Hinoka keeps Setsuna as a retainer because Setsuna's family has been retainers for Hinoka's for a long time.

Plus: Setsuna is a Bunny-Ears Lawyer. She's spacey and strange, but amazing with a bow.
