FMJ can work in some animals just as long as you match the round to the game. Even expanding bullets can zip through a game animal if it is over matched for the game. But there is nothing actually wrong with that. A through and through on a wound channel bleeds more profusely then a bullet that stops inside the animal. Expanding bullets are nice in that they can leave a larger wound channel which is a plus but not the be all and end all of ammo factors .223 is right at the bottom end for deer.

Just like in fighting it is true for hunting. Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement.

The only way to guarantee your dropping the animal is a CNS or Spine hit. Either that or cause such extensive tissue damage that there is nothing to support the animal and it falls over and then shortly expires.

Bigger and heavier critters can be gotten away with FMJ. In some cases like black bear it's required if you're using a lower caliber like .223.

FMJ .30-06 is good for bear and elk (but not always ideal) but will punch right through deer.

[up]God, that magazine and magwell look so weird on the Mk-17.

Aside from the picatinny rails and stock, no difference on the MP-5.

That improved XM-25 now undergoing acceptance testing? It's got a better optic now.

US gunmakers wishing to submit entries for the Modular Handgun System trials are to do so by 2016. Also, Robert Gates is not happy about how long it's taken.

A Gatling gun made of SKS carbines. Yeah.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot

The PTRS Vs The PTRD 1944.

Actual Soviet archives from actual Red Army personnel. It seems the cruder Degtyarev was the better weapon.

Not surprised by any of the reports but it's still really interesting to read.

Up to 10000 guns found in various locationsAfter police raided a man they were issuing a subpoena related to drugs. They believe a large number of the guns are stolen. Also had numerous crossbows, taxidermy animals, 500 some odd chainsaws etc.

Honest to goodness, the theft aspect aside, the only thing about that which really jumps out at me as scary is the chainsaws.

Yeah. On that, unless the guns were stolen, as they appear to be, I wasn't aware that there was an upper limit to how many firearms you can legally possess in his particular state. Am I wrong?

Not that I know of for his location or really any of them. Apparently in addition the subpoena for drug trafficking his name kept coming up as a receiver of stole property. Apparently a large number of the items not just the guns are likely stolen property he likely bought up. A couple other articles suggest he never sold the items just bought and hoarded them.

We will likely learn more later.

So we probably have a gun hoarder? Can those guns go back on the civilian market or will they either rot in a evidence room or be destroyed?

If they are stolen some might go back to the owners depending on the local laws.

Old news. We knew that was coming months ago. Not exactly happy with it. We will see how it affects shooting. I need to chat with my former unit members who are still in and see what they thing or know. Especially the ANGLICO guy.

Given the new rounds the Army and the USMC have adopted, it's just a matter of time before the M-16 is Deader Than Disco.

Now the Army won't adopt another rifle because: A) LOSAT looks promising, B) They own the plans for both the M-16 and M-4 and C) A lot of TRADOC and the Infantry branch are stuck on the M-16/M-4.
