Da Auto's script should be disabled now. Don't bother to download it. The banner stays. Quote buttons are not wanted on my forum, for the reasons given in the sticky in Tech Wishlist.

Eddie doesn't trust us.
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! ~ GODFast Eddie, be careful with You Fail Technology Forever! No matter how godly your permissions over this site are, as they are, and I say this with all respect among other things because I actually agree with the No Quote Button Policy, but... Java Script runs clientside. The visitor installs a script on their machine and they decide how they want the site to look in their particular browsing facility. Be it enlarge the text, show IP addresses, or add quotation buttons to their view of the reply boxes, it's their call. If DA was suggesting that you changed the server code that would be another matter, but this thread is for things that Tropers get to install in their machines for themselves...
Well, not to say that DA can not just upload the script elsewhere... but then you would kill the link he puts that leads to the site, right?
Not to mention, if you were to change the policy to dictate that the users of this site can not install add-ons to this site clientside, not only would that be unenforceable (I mean, does having the antivirus check the pages downloaded to caché count?) but also, depending on the wording, would count as malware.
Just saying, because having the script removed felt waaaaay out of place.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?Don't want quotebuttons. It doesn't matter who adds them. Don't want them, for the reasons given.
Say someone made a script to trash a page and made it widely available. Wouldn't want that one, either. Quotebuttons are a very, very mild form of page trashing — as the policy is in place to help improve the quality of discourse.
I'm not saying the script was a vandal tool, but it wasn't just adding a convenience, it was circumventing a policy.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyOk, new feature:
I find smilies difficult tell apart, so I make CSS to make more identifiable. Also improve ignore extension.
Test:
Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here. The thing is, the main function a quote button performs is to link two comments together, so that, if the page has moved very far, no one has to go back trying to figure out what is being said.
The way to get this accomplished without the quote would be some sort of autolinking, which would work without actually giving the quote, but would at least let anyone click and see what you are responding to.
Everyone Has An Important Job To Do↑...Something like this? (I'm just inventing syntax here)

Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?^^ and ^: It's not really necessary, considering that clicking on the timestamp of a post takes you to the permanent link for that specific post.
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”But [[doesnotexistyetbutshould: the syntax]] is easier. And that's important, considering that linking the time stamp is a migraine inducer.
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! ~ GODUh, not really. You right-click on the timestamp and select Copy Link Location, or whatever your browser equivalent is. Or were you referring to something else?
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”It is if you haven't the foggiest how or don't want to go back to the page so you can do this. It would be nice, you know?
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! ~ GODConsidering you probably just came from the page you're quoting, it's not that difficult. And I just told you how to get the link for the post.
Anyway, the reason we don't have a quote button is because Eddie doesn't it like it being so easy quoting things, among other reasons. He's not going to code a different solution for something that takes barely less effort than the current one as well as encouraging the thing he's trying to prevent.

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Okay, I guess that works.
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! ~ GODWhatever happened to the "ignore troper" extension? I can't find it, and I need it very much.
There's a troper I know that isn't breaking the rules in any specific way, but is a horrible, horrible debater, of the sort that keep repeating their ideas over and over and are impossible to sway no matter how long you argue with them. Conversations stop being intellectual fun and become ugly arguments. I want to be able not to see what he's saying. Since he's not breaking the rules, hollering is pointless, but I really think interactions would be improved for everyone if I could ignore him.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."Ignore users" scripts have attracted negative attention from the staff elsewhere since they were used to exclude people from discussions.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Yes.
We expect people to self-moderate themselves as well. You don't have to reply to literally every post directed at you. If it's inappropriate, you can ignore or holler it(depending what it is). Replying rudely is never the right answer, no matter how offended you are.
Yeah, but is it rude to say something like "debating you on this topic makes me miserable, please leave me alone"?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Yes. However that does not give you carte blanche to be a dick to them in return.
