Oh, they're called Grief Seeds. And you only get them from Witches proper, instead of Familiars that are bascally copies of the witch.
And Mami had to wish for... life? She was in a car crash and had to wish for life. ;_;
Sayaka wants to make a wish for another person (the woman from the intro?), but Mami tells her to think it over. Later, Madoka wants to be as cool as Mami, and Kyubey tells her she might be the most talented person it's ever met. Foreshadowing, I'm pretty sure.
Homura and Mami have a moonlight chat. Homura wants to stop Madoka before she makes the contract/
Hey, look a Grief Seed! It's still hatching, so Sayaka and Kyubey hang out to keep it in check while Madoka runs to get Mami. Of course, moments later the seed absorbs the two and we go back to the insanity-inducing world.
Mami and Madoka arrive soon after, and enter. Homura rocks up and tells them that she'll deal with this on, but Mami binds her in mid-air, telling her that she's in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Sayaka meanwhile has reached the Grief Seed and notices it's about to give... birth?... to the next Witch, so the two girls get moving.
On the way there, Mami and Madoka talk about what Madoka'll wish for. Madoka only wants to be special, but Mami tells her that being a Puella sucks ass. No dating, no time to hang out with friends, and she has to cry alone if she gets injured.
Madoka, however, tells her that she isn't alone anymore, and something strange happens: Mami becomes normal.
Wow, her life must've sucked pretty bad to date. First a car crash, then getting roped into fighting creepy thingies with a low drop rate... Note the Sincerity Mode. She's like the one who wants to be normal, to provide a foil to Madoka. She gets really teary eyes and asks if Madoka'll really fight beside her, then actually cries when Madoka holds her hands and says yes.
=3 Aww.
Whooo! Fight scene! This Witch is apparently a loli in an inferior art style, and promptly gets shot after Mami pulls out some crazy-awesome Gun Fu. Fuck yeah, shotgun-whipped! Mami also thinks how she's so happy now, and her body feels so light. Damn, this Witch was either a Mook or just plain unlucky to try in this episode. Come back later in the series, when the Filler starts, bitch!
Oh wait, now it's it a worm. Right. And it's fast— MOVEMAMIMOVE.
