Any other fans?

I love Kousaka. I find him the funniest character on the entire show due to his obliviousness.

I really identified with Oguie for some reason. And the lead-guy of sorts, as a student, I'm pretty much like him.

The show's pretty neat, but I kinda got tired when I tried to re-watch the episodes, since the first season has some boring ones.

You could really relate to at least one of the characters, my favorite slice of life :)

By the way, does anyone know what chapter the pages in the Genshiken example here (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InnocentInnuendo) are from? (The Soba thing) Couldn't find it reading through the manga, is it some special chapter?

Not sure, I've only seen the anime. Got the first volume of the manga coming in this week, with any luck.

(I am aware that the anime covers vols. 1-4 of the manga, I like rereading things and am interested of the manga's treatment of the subjects.)

It's an Omake in a collection of side stories:Page 1 and page 2. Sadly the rest of the stories AFAIK haven't been translated.

One of my favourite series ever. My introduction of my favourite series on my anime club's forum was a Long List that went: Genshiken Haruhi Genshiken etc.grin

Seeing as this forum is sloooooooooow, I think I have the right to necro this.

I love Madarame and Ohno, but think that I'm personally more like Kohsaka.

Heh, I guess I could identify the most with Madarame, but sometimes when I am around my friends I tend to act like Kuchi.evil grin

I think most of us can agree that we somehow relate to Madarame. I see myself as a mix of him and Sasahara.

I'm closer to Tanaka myself - I've even got the beard and "be careful with my STUFF" obsession smile - but there's a bit of me in every member of the Genshiken.

A lot of people like to identify themselves with Sasahara because he's the edgiest one about being a nerd. I mean, not everyone, but some people aren't comfortable with their nerdiness.

Does anyone have a video link to the bit containing the picture from Yaoi Fangirl? It was one of the funniest parts in the series.

What I'd really like to know is whether or not Saki and Kousaka finally got hitched. They tied the loose ends with Ogiue and Sasahara, but the Beta Couple hasn't gotten that resolution.

Well, they've been dating regularly since about episode one or two, and definitely have had sex during that time. Anyway, I'm pretty sure they get married later.

Personally, I thought the Kousaka character got to be really bland sometime around Volume 5. I can't think of anything memorable he's done since then. Which makes the Madarme/Saki alternate shipping thing understandable, at least in my mind.

See you in the discussion pages.

Well, yeah, Kouska doesn't have much personality in that sense, but he hits off with Saki pretty well. Maybe he's just that good, If You Know What I Mean.

Just because Kohsaka's character is bland is no indicator of his actual personality. I'm sure he displays some more character outside of the "camera".

I think Kousaka does have some personality that he does not show during the show(Hehe). He shows that he had a more caring side to him when Saki got upset because of Madarame's comment about her starting the fire.

I do like the Madarame/Saki couple though. If she had not met up with Kousaka again I could see them getting together. I think she sees him as a close friend, but if Kousaka were not there, who knows what could have happened.

I checked out the first 5 vols of the manga from the library. Can't stop laughing. It hurts when I laugh and I'm only laughing because it hurts.

Despite my having been around anime and video game nerds all my life, I always feel like Sasahara. Partially because I've got about 20 other things besides otakudom I'm spending my time/money on at the same time.

An alarming number of my friends have been like Tanaka and Kugayama. I've also known at least a few people like Ohno.

I've known a couple people like Madarame. But not many. Thank God. D:

As for who my FAVORITE character is, I'd say it's a tie between Sasahara (he treats joining the Genshiken like he's buying crack off the street for the first time, or joining a mysterious eldritch cult—-the rest of the group seems to play this up too, especially Madarame), Madarame (he's just freaking hilarious, from his Gundam obsession to his oddly mutant body to his voice in the anime), and Ohno (she's adorably bashful and freaking HOT whether cosplaying or in normal clothes]]].

A question to see if I'm the only one thinking this -

Personally, I think Ohno's American friend Angela and Madarame should have gotten together. After all, Angela does have a thing for guys with glasses, and as was pointed out in the omake stuff in Vol. 6 (by no less than Hellsing mangaka Kouta Hirano) Madarame is is sexiest moe character in Genshiken.

What do y'all think?

That would be quite a tragic pairing during the time frame of the series. Angela was obviously well off and doing good academically while Madarame was essentially a NEET after he graduated. They wouldn't have been able to stay together unless Angela was prepared to make a lot of sacrifices.

Eh? Madarame isn't a NEET (Not engaged in Employment, Education, or Training) when he graduates. He gets a job with a local plumbing company - not the greatest job, but enough to finance himself.

Of course, he does quit his job in on of the bonus chapters in the back of Kujibiki Unbalance, but the canonicity of that is debatable.

I do see what you're getting at. Madarame and Angela are very different breeds of otaku. He's an antisocial, maladjusted, gangly otaku of the original negative meaning. She's a social, successful, beautiful otaku of the Americanized, more positive meaning.

But bridging this gap (and showing that good things can happen even for a freak like Madarame) is what makes the idea interesting (for me at least).
