Hey, don't blame me, blame the guys who write the show.

So for an actual discussion topic, who saw the twist with Montgomery coming? And was it too far from left field?

A rather high body count for Castle. I make it six.

Then again, one or two of those may not actually be dead. They can't kill off Beckett, they wouldn't have a show. It could all be a sting to draw out the Big Bad.

Wham indeed. I don't really buy the twist, though. How come nobody remembered him being pals with the other two cops, now murdered? Wouldn't it occur to somebody, "Hey, that third guy may be in danger"?

[up]I thought the same thing.... but the show is called Castle... And as such, anyone but Castle can die...

Plus, there is still Alexis Castle. Who knows, wild mass guessmaybe she takes over for her dad?wild mass guess

Ahahaha as if. And besides, a Castle without Beckett wouldn't really be Castle anymore. Not many shows could survive that sort of paradigm shift, and given what the whole premise of the show is, well...

Why would they kill Becket? They would have to be the worst TV Show producers ever to do that.

[up]The simplest reason, and I have no idea if it's true or not, is the actor/actress doesn't want to come back to the show, and they have to get rid of them somehow... And in the case of Beckett, quitting the force and skipping town doesn't seem like an in-character thing to do...

I, honestly, think it's some ploy... and it didn't really happen though...

Okay, mega spoiler thoughts:

Beckett will live, or else they won't have a show. I prefer to expect that it's a sting, because if she's shot for real and serious, she's only gonna live because of her tenacity and deus ex machina.

Another reason I want it to be a sting is because the day after I watched it, I woke up and realized, what did we see of Montgomery's death? We saw him get shot in the torso, we saw blood in his mouth, and we saw Beckett collapse on him. Then we saw her tell her colleagues not to tell anybody what actually happened, and then the funeral procession. We have no verification that Montgomery is dead. The whole funeral could be an act to draw the killer into the open, and he's going to come back like Gordon did in The Dark Knight.

Your first thought's pretty plausible, but as for the second I've gotta say that that would be hella evil. I mean you give the dude a Dying Moment of Awesome and then he pops back up out of nowhere? Nah, that cheapens the point of that moment.

Besides, he'd probably have to go to jail. That part would seriously suck.

That stuff is probably past the statute of limitations, and it doesn't necessarily have to come out, although he clearly intended for it to. if not, what's left is "killed suspects in self defense."

[up] He shot, even if accidentially, a underover cop (if i remember correctly) during a rogue vigilante kidnapping and blackmailing operation. That would fit the "Crimes that are considered exceptionally heinous by society" The O Ther Wiki references for crimes which have no statute of limitations.

And even then. He KNEW about the whole thing. He knew and said nothing for Months while an Investigation was going on. Thats at least obstruction of justice if he has a particularly nasty DA. He'll never be a cop again even if they did not puruse the above. And somehow seeing him sit at home sometimes mentoring the Characters would to him not good from a storytelling perspective.

No way Kate is dead. The only thing that is a cliffhanger is if she'll remember what Castle said. Marlowe has confirmed as much in a TV Guide interview that you can find easily using your Google-Fu. New chief's dynamics will be interesting. I hope its a woman and that she doesn't like Castle. That would make for a more interesting precinct.

And we're back people! Not gonna lie, it wasn't my favorite episode so far by a long shot, but if nothing else I really want to know what happens with Beckett remembering Castle's confession.

Well, if you'll recall the scene in the playground, she admits she won't be ready for a real relationship until her mother's case is resolved. Which goes against last season's ender, when she dumped another BF to be with Castle (apparently), only to find him going off with his ex-wife.

And the mytharc case is back in the shadows. We have a Mr. X who knows most of what's what, but we also saw him digging through Montgomery's files and writing some cryptic notes, things like "We made him." It looks like they'll be working on that case from a different angle and with fewer resources.

Edit: one more point. In this ep at least, they're making Beckett more vulnerable and Castle more sober. Plenty of room in both directions.

Pretty dark opening ep, but then it had to be given the ending of season 3.

Well, she's had some personal revelations since then. She's gotten deeper into her mother's case than ever before, and she's realized it's crowding out everything else. And she's had another man in her chain of men she dated but couldn't get close enough to love. I think that part of Rick's shouting match from this past finale ("men you don't love") sunk in.
