Time period is nice, the art design is fantastic (just look at some of the architecture, especially underground. It's beautiful.) There's the return of a few old faces, such as Reaver, the high-class scum you love to hate. There's Jasper, your butler throughout the game as voiced by John Cleese himself, and a healthy helping of British-style humor throughout the game. Humor is, after all, what the Fable series is really all about.

The side quests are many and varied, and the longer chains are quite amusing. There's a return of the gargoyle quest from the previous game, this time involving evil insulting garden gnomes. Shooting them is quite satisfying, once you figure out where the hell they're hiding.

Also, Sir Walter is awesome.

"Before we go any further, I have something I need to say." *shouts so it echoes across the valley* "BAAAAAAAAALLS!"

While I complain a bit about lack of customization, combat is fairly fluid. The auto-aim takes some getting used to, but you don't need to worry about dying all that much. What you lose from dying is just a bit of experience and a bit of personal pride, then you get right back up again and get back to hacking away.

The number of clothing choices is quite large, and you have the option to dye your clothes and hair however you like, as well as put on tattoos of many makes. The colors for tattoos vary, and I'm not clear on why yet (are the glowing tattoos something that happens with high Morality or not?) You are not limited to one set of clothing or another by the sex of your character, either, and townsfolk will comment on your choices. This includes such things as the chicken suit.

Sakamoto demands an explanation for this shit.

I actually don't like the time period. With a fantasy series called Fable, you'd think that it would be set in a period more conducive to magic use, like the Middle Ages or even the Renaissance. I also would like to see the return of bows/crossbows. Guns just don't feel as skillful and the don't have the fantasy feel that bows have.

Most of the simplification in this game simply makes it worse than Fable II. All that leveling up does is cause more damage. No new skills, no better attack speed (aside from magic), no health bonus. On the subject of health, your health does not increase when you level up, but stronger enemies begin populating Albion. It gets aggravating how easily you can get knocked out later in the game.

Also, the entire geography of Albion seems to have been thrown out the window: North is now west and the only recognizable areas of Albion are all in Bowerstone.

I think the weapon morphing could have been a positive feature, but they implemented it horribly. Your weapon WILL NOT morph according to your desires/actions. It will morph according to random statistics (e.g. real estate, ST Ds, chickens kicked) rather than player choice or combat style.

Even with all these flaws and my belief that this is the worst of the series, I still had some fun with it, although it could have been MUCH better.

I think it is somewhat enjoyable, but don't expect much replay value.

I haven't played Fable III, but I just saw an impressive rant about the game, courtesy of our own Funnyguts.

As time has passed since I bought it, I realized that I was very disappointed in this game. It was pitifully empty, simple, broken, and rushed. I feel it is easily the worst Fable game in the series. I'll wait until I hear a lot of reviews before I buy another Fable game.

The PC version will have its version of "Insanity" difficulty mode.

Sorry for nercoing this thread but with the game coming out in a few days for PC should I consider picking it up? I haven't played the first two but I have a solid grasp of the plot. Problem is that every review I come across is either pure praise or a brutal smackdown.

That is cool but I did see (via Steam) that there were some pre-order bonus weapons.... though I doubt they would be that great.

I wasn't impressed. I would advise you pick up another game, hell, even some ones that don't look that impressive. Better games to spend your money on than that glitch-filled mess. It really did play like a beta at times.

I never had any problem with glitches, but this game just felt like it was missing something.

I missed the combat. Fable I had the best combat, but I at least got some satisfaction out of the sword-and-gun action of II (I didn't use magic much.) Fable III seemed to add the actual fighting part of being a hero as an afterthought, rather than the primary focus.

Yeah, I was in the middle of playing Fable III's Traitor's Keep DLC when Dragon Age II came out. After beating DA2, I returned to Fable III and found the combat tedious as hell.

Fable becomes a better game with each passing entry. 3 is worth a look and if their record keeps up then by 5 or so it will be a must have. At least IMO.

Well, I've played the PC version now that it's out. In a word: "mediocre". On one hand, the game is in general fairly inoffensive, there are a few things about it that a liked a lot, and it's short enough that I got all the way through the main storyline before it outstayed its welcome. On the other, it feels empty and lacking in content, and did a lot of things wrong. All in all, I'm glad I played it, but I'd be surprised if I want to play it again any time soon.

Well, I think after playing the game all the way to the finish after putting it on the backburner for the best part of a year, I have to more or less completely take back my original complaints about III. Now to be fair, grinding 6 million gold was a fecking arse, and the combat still isn't nearly as challenging as Fable I, but relationship and money grind-fests aside, the storyline was incredibly engaging, and the action wasn't too bad either. There aren't many games where you can take over an entire kingdom, right down to each individual house, and then save it, and the game certainly satisfied the inner benevolent megalomaniac in me.

I take it back Molyneux; Fable III was slow to start off with but once you're engaged in it you'll keep going. That said... its sort of over after the main quest. But what am I complaining about; you've completed the game! What d'ya want, another game afterwards?

I thought Fable 3 was pretty fun, and I play it every once in a while. I liked the story and characterization much more than the other games. To me it should've been more difficult and lacked some things the first game did better, but I liked it more than the 2nd one, which I find to be the worst of the trilogy.

Finally finished this. That ending was bullshit, I had enough money to save everyone if they had just given me a chance to deposit it. And that last battle was half-assed. Fuck you Lionhead for rushing the damn thing.

I still maintain that there were fairly obvious clues that day 121 was the last day you got. After playing to that point I don't see what all the fuss is about; if you're organised you'll have got the 6 million in anyway.
