To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.

I know, it still surprised me that everything was a pound.

I was just bewildered at the cheapness. I stood in one isle for a few minutes just unsure whether a pair of headphones I was looking at were really worth £1.

Bought them anyway.

That's how places like that make a profit. Some very few items are cheaper than would be typical, but most of it is overpriced at least a little, and some is overpriced a lot.

What she said.

In actuality, one can buy Nutella at Poundland for £1. However, it is merely 450 g.

At Asda, one can buy Nutella... for £1. 800 g.

You should see the Dispatches: Secrets of Poundland on 4OD.

Still baffling to me.

Even after you realize how crazy PETA is, they're still crazier than you think they are.

I just learned that the length of your foot is equal (or at least very close) to length of your forearm.

I'm two for two, apparently:

The distance from Montreal to Calgary (via Google Maps) is about 3 500 km.

The distance from Birmingham to Moschow (also via Google Maps) is about 3 000 km.

That Danny Elfman did the music for Men In Black. I was watching the opening credits and started thinking, this sounds like the music from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I started for the dvd box, but then "Music by Danny Elfman" popped up on screen.

I dunno - I think the suspicion caused by purposefully holding someone in a hug for 20 seconds may override any trust chemicals.

"Uh...you can let go now."

"But I want you to tr - I mean I just want to keep hugging you!"

"...It's been twenty freaking seconds, how long of a hug - "

"Oh, it's been twenty already? Okay, I'm done."

On Quite Interesting, I think they said that the best hug lasts for max three seconds or so, and more than that automatically feels awkward.

One of them actually lasted for 20 seconds, and I don't think they trusted each other that much more after that.

To become a part of United States Army Ranger, you have to pass the Ranger School. Two things I learned about it:

  • It's 61 days long.
  • More than few people died during the training.

Wow, that really is Spartan.

Apparently there's a cartoon or video game character or something named after the Sephiroth. Interesting choice. I wonder what his parents were thinking at the time?

The things you learn from Google, eh?
