Bit less neurotic at times, but it's slow progress.

Half the fanbase would probably disappear if she got over all her problems. Something similar to Shipping Bed Death I presume.

How the hell do you not know how to bake a cake? There's instructions on the back of the boxes.

...I would hardly call that "baking", if it comes in boxes. Real cakes are made from primary ingredients!

It uses an oven for something besides keeping it warm. That's "baking". Even if you make it from primary ingredients, it's still not that hard. Besides which, the boxes are cheaper.

Then I guess I've never baked a cake, either.

But I do bake pies :D

I kind of do this.

Lol, yes.

The place I go to school is about 20 minutes away by car.

On the bus, it takes me two hours to get there.

I live in Arizona. It takes three hours to get from Tucson, where I live, to Phoenix. Hell, even Mesa is two hours away.

So yeah, I agree with Faye too.

Anyone notice the lips on the last panel. they seem overlarge for all the characters, but for Dora especialy. Actually her whole face is wierd. Oh well, Jeff has occasional weird art days.

They are kinda weird looking.

(I have been wondering, why do you always spell the author's name wrong?)

Having experienced the trip between Amherst and Northampton multiple times in the summer of 2007...well, I'm not really sure what to think. A roughly 20-minute trip like that sort of sits on the border of what us tiny-state people consider "close". I mean, it's not far, but yes, we do have weird senses of scale. I think we usually take "close" to mean 5-10 minutes, and by "close" I mean close enough that traveling that distance isn't considered a nuisance. 20 minutes...well, that's the kind of thing where in my family, our instinct is to go "Wait, isn't there a closer option?"

Of course, the reactions of everyone in this are really exaggerated. We don't actually regard such distances as being that far away. "Practically an overnight trip"? Pfft.

I've lived my entire life in Connecticut and Massachusetts, so I guess I'll never really know Faye's perspective on this.

(Yes, I'm such a huge geography nerd. Also, I love when Jeph actually reminds us that yes, this is set in more or less real-life western Mass., which means so much more to me than I'm sure it does to a great deal of the readers.)

As someone who lives in the Springfield area in Mass, I can say that Amherst and No Ho ARE forever away. Oh I'm just lazy and impatient. Both?

Haha yeah, I have to jump on the subway to visit any of my friends, so 20 minutes is pretty much the norm for me.

Well, you also have the situation of being in Chicago. The Pioneer Valley would seem like the country to you, I would think? Maybe that makes things seem farther apart...

It kinda depends on the content of the journey. 20 minutes through town might not seem like much, but 20 minutes of a never-ending back country road can seem like forever. My friend used to only live about 23 minutes out of town (which isn't much in the Midwest), but the last 8 miles was this desolate stretch of wooded county road that always had me looking for a knife to end the pain by the time I finally reached my friend's place.

So it's all relative.

I live in Southeastern Virginia, where everything is 20 minutes away from everything, so this comic amuses me greatly.

everything is pretty much at least 20 minutes from my house through semi-foresty suburban area. At this point, the drive is just autopilot and I just kind of wake up at my destination.
