I don't see why the character needs his own page. He isn't a work. He isn't a trope. He's just a character. He should be on the character sheet of the appropriate work.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickHe may be a prevalent fictional character outside of his own story though. You know, shit like Merlin's Shop Of Mystical Wonders.
I think a character sheet for the original Merlin and how he's used wouldn't be bad. He's pretty much a Historical Domain Character (or whatever the fictional equivalent is).
Fight smart, not fair.^Public Domain Character, and I'd agree.
yeah, i wondered about this when i first saw this page, too. seems like it should be done in a similar way to Robin Hood (which has the main/ page for the character, then a series/ page for the 2006 BBC show).
and it should be mentioned that there's also a previous work with the same name (a TV mini-series starring sam neill as merlin).
I agree that Merlin should be about the character. While he is generally tied to Arthurian legends, this is not always the case (Quest For Glory II mentions Merlin but not Arthur).
BTW, I did a quick skim of the wicks earlier today, focusing on articles that looked like names of works (assuming that any mentions of "Merlin" in trope articles were examples taken from the TV series). Conclusion: Appears that Moonheart is an isolated event.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Have a look at Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Excalibur in the Stone. As well the Sam Neil series is in the Film namespace for some reason, and frequently goes unlinked. I'm pro "Merlin as character" for Main, and a split Series page for the BBC and Sam Neil shows.
Creed of the Happy Pessimist:Always expect the worst. Then, when it happens, it was only what you expected. All else is a happy surprise.Well, the full title is "The Adventures of Merlin"
Wasn't there a pilot movie (or otherwise completely unrelated movie) just called "Merlin"?
But soft! What rock through yonder window breaks? It is a brick! And Juliet is out cold.^^I dunno about in the British version, but the American import is only titled "Merlin."
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I agree with having the main entry be for the character of Merlin himself. It's like having the main page of Santa Claus be Santa Claus

The British version is just Merlin as well.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickIt would be Series.Merlin, rather than Television.Merlin, and yes, it should be moved, if someone has something to say about the Arthurian figure.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyPlus if its full title is not that, it should be moved to the full title anyway.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. The other isn't the full title. It was the pre-production working title and is not the official title. The official title is just Merlin.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThen I was misinformed.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.A while back someone informed me of a wiki policy that ideally works should go in their own namespaces, and not on Main? Someone in a position of authority, please step forward.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.We have Dennis The Menace US and Dennis The Menace UK.
If we want to make pages for the British television series and the US miniseries, we could easily do Merlin US and Merlin UK
There's a US series titled Merlin besides the imported one?
EDIT: Nevermind, found it. Why not Merlin-1998 for the older series? That's what we do with series like V. Assuming anyone wants to make a page for it, anyway.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.^ Mini-series. I thought that's what other people in this topic were bringing up.
And we shouldn't add a year because that's what we do with Remakes. The mini-series is not a remake, and it's chief distinction between the British series is country of origin.

And since the currently running Merlin is being released in both countries, that would be less confusing.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Yeah, not everyone knows that the series is actually UK. A lot of people just know it as "that show on Sci-Fi" as Sci-Fi hasn't really advertised that it's an imported British show.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick
Just noticed that Main.Merlin is about the TV series, not the character of Arthurian legend. This may be a problem.
I'm too busy to investigate the wicks atm (feel free to step in), but Moonheart is one example of misuse as it links to the legendary character, not the series.
Shouldn't we move the article to Television.Merlin ?
