Inspired by Questor, whom one will not see around the forums any more for very good reasons, this thing's inspiration being one of the least of them.

Scrub Field Generator 4

Whenever a permanent of Rare of Mythic Rare rarity enters the battlefield under an opponent's control, you may sacrifice two basic lands. If you do, exile that permanent. This ability can't be countered.

Also, I just can't keep that bloody monocolor shutdown angel off my mind. The hell, Wizards? The hell?

Stephan: õ_õ I think Guu is definitely G (mentor figure helping Hare accept his relationships with those around him, source of wisdom and personal growth, eats everything, vomits up monsters or an adult alter ego if she has to fight), but also pretty strongly R or B (preferred mode of mentoring is to troll Hare into maturity, offers contradictory aphorisms after Hare acts on her advice, easily bored and does everything for her own amusement, starts trivial fights over things she doesn't care about, thrives on the emotions of others, especially Hare, especially fear, distress, and embarassment). Let me try...

Guu - 1RRGG
Legendary Creature - Incarnation
Reach
When Guu is declared a blocker, exile all creatures she blocks.
Return a creature exiled by Guu to the battlefield: Guu does 2 damage to target creature or planeswalker.
1R: Exile a creature you control. Guu gains Menace until end of turn.
1G: Guu gains Fight and has power equal to her toughness until end of turn.

[up] White has a tendency to hate red and black things. He is white and hates red and black things while being red and black himself. He doesn't, however, hate white. If you joined a racist group against your own race, you can be a boomerang bigot while not hating the hateful group you're a part of. As for the second thing, if he had art, he would have a boomerang (Edit: it's a poison boomerang).

And yeah, he's more in line with dega than Mardu. White-centric WRB and all.

It feels like fixing banding should be a simple matter. But maybe that's just the perspective of people who've been playing Magic since forever?

Phalanx (During the combat phase, any number of creatures with Phalanx may form a group called a 'formation' that attacks or blocks as though it were a single colorless creature with the combined power and toughness of its members and no abilities. When damage is assigned to a formation, its controller assigns damage to its members instead of the damage source's controller.)

Nationlandian Shieldmate 1W
Creature - Human Soldier
Phalanx
1/2

Driving Sergeant 3W
Creature - Rhino Soldier
Phalanx
Attacking formations that include ~ have trample.
3/3

Nationlandian Tactician 2W
Creature - Human Phalanx
Blocking formations that include ~ have first strike.
1/2

Captain Ironside, High Marshall of Nationlandia 4WW
Legendary Creature - Elephant Soldier
Phalanx, Trample
2W: Target creature you control gains phalanx until end of turn.
Her fists are like anvils and her hammer is a rockslide, but her mind is a diamond chisel.
3/5

Bloodrite Celebrant 3B
Creature - Vampire Cleric
Phalanx
When a creature blocking or blocked by a formation that includes ~ dies, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature in that formation.
"They'll never suspect where their new strength is coming from. Why trouble them?"

Nationlandian Nightraider 2B

Formations that include ~ have lifelink.

[up] The last one is missing its mana cost.

That seems workable, but I'm not sure if the templating is correct. Either way, it seems like a G/W ability rather than a W/B ability.

Durazno Since: Jan, 2001 Relationship Status: Drift compatible
#13497: Jul 16th 2015 at 1:04:23 PM

It's probably black and red tertiary, with blue being the only color that doesn't normally get it.

And yeah, the templating is fuzzy and probably there are more than a few problems I didn't think of. I can't help but feel that if there were a workable way to band, they'd have worked it out by now.

IrishZombie Since: Dec, 2009
#13498: Jul 16th 2015 at 1:35:29 PM

I can't really see red and black (the colors that fiercely defend individuality) seriously considering phalanx tactics that require them to depend on lots of other dudes.

Maybe red, but red's armies tend to be more like disorganized mobs.

Elfive Since: May, 2009 Relationship Status: Non-Canon
#13499: Jul 16th 2015 at 1:36:44 PM

It shows up in black, but only on zombies.

Durazno Since: Jan, 2001 Relationship Status: Drift compatible
#13500: Jul 16th 2015 at 2:31:45 PM

That is a good point.

My notion would be that red would be more for bonds of camaraderie and have activated abilities that relate to the formations, and black would be creatures that join the formations and benefit individually from them somehow. (I guess the examples I gave weren't great, but I could see one having an ability that involves sacrificing other creatures in its formation, for instance.)
