[up]Locodol disagrees. Even blondness means nothing.

I'm pretty sure some characters have called Ayaka "blonde" at some point, so their manga hair colors are apparently their true hair colors… Asuna's red hair would hardly be something to comment on. surprised Especially when the class has several pink-haired girls…

… wait how did we end up doing half a page of debate on that. evil grin Okay, it's my fault I guess…

[up]The anime shifted around so many it's not even funny. Finding it odd that he even considered that the manga didn't take precedence, though.

[down]Shh... We don't talk about that.

[up][up] To be fair, there's the case of Misa, where she didn't initially have purple hair in the manga even though she was supposed to, and the anime beat the manga to that punch.

[up][up][up][up] I don't know, in Umineko almost everyone in the Ushiromiya family has red, auburn or blonde hair, yet the only blonde hair that elicits any reaction is Beatrice's. Meaning that Krauss, Jessica or Lion aren't actually blond in-story. That's what I meant by "real hair".

[up][up][up] Tell me about Chisame's green hair… —'.`—

[up][up] Chisame's green hair is one of the many fuck-ups of Negima's first anime adaptation, specifically in the hair color category. See here for a complete comparison chart.

[up][up] What?

[up] Does that mean the other anime and the OVAs do a better job?

Volume 21-22. I'm proceeding a bit too fast maybe…

  • That… sure does look like the kind of wound Konoka can heal easily! tongue
  • Akira Ishida, could you stop talking in my head every time Fate is on screen?
    • … *takes a look at Akira Ishida's page* … Why am I not at all surprised?
  • Whew, that's one hell of a Fanservice Pack Chachamaru got there. She has somehow become even more adorable than before. And then a giant cargo boat of crap passed under the radar
  • A "legal slave contract"is something I would like to laugh off as totally unthinkable in a modern civilized country, but I sadly can't…
  • Geez, Ako, get a clue already… how will Negi even handle her when he grows up to actually look like his "cousin"? Well, she will probably learn the truth before that, but…
  • Still, I'm surprised nobody even considers that this guy who is the spitting image of Nagi Sringfield and has the same name might just be his son under age-changing disguise… I can buy that it would work in the human world, but in the magical world where you can get those pills for 2000 yens on the net…?
  • Rakan… now that I think about it, the series lacked this kind of larger-than-life character yet (except maybe Eva, sometimes). I sure hope we see the Eternal Negi Fever again.
  • Ah, there we are. That Magia Erebea thing. I clearly don't have the impression that a magic relying on dark feelings is fitting for Negi… okay, he's often all melancholy and all, but… you'll tell me, it fits Tōta even less in theory. —'.`—
  • Other than that, Chisame makes a surprisingly good substitute in Asuna's absence. She understands quite well how Negi works.
  • Yes, Setsuna, your wings are beautiful… although, "Kono-chan"? Where did that come from all of a sudden? [lol]
  • Ah, a pactio with Kazumi. I'm honnestly surprised it didn't happen earlier.

I'm liking this arc so far. It has a slightly different feel from the festival arc but still very pleasant. If there's no time travel involved, I could even like it even more. tongue

Their slavery system actually doesn't seem that bad to me.

These are Eva's age changing pills. They're probably better than the normal kind.

Dark magic isn't evil magic. It's all encompassing and rejects nothing. You could say it's like how a black hole absorbs anything, or perhaps that if you mix all the paints together they'll end up black.

Their slavery system is very specifically an indentured servitude system put in place to prevent an actual, "slaves have no protections and are just human-shaped objects" slavery system.

Well, apparently, if the girls didn't have a relatively decent person as their master, they could very well have ended up as "human-shaped objects with no protection" until they paid their debt…

@Lye: The second anime had some interesting changes; Asuna lost her noted heterochromia (and gained zany hair to boot), Nodoka and Yue switched hair colors, Sakurako's hair is so searingly blonde I have to wonder if it's dyed, etc. The OV As do a better job, and even then it still isn't 100% accurate.

@Arha: Eva's pills are specifically stated to be stronger than the normal kind. If I remember correctly, Eva's pills are black-market, partly because the change can't be detected by other mages.

Tosaka is really just kind of a dick. Slaves have all sorts of legal rights and the way people talk about it the rights are usually upheld.

The real problem for the girls is that it's about a 99% chance that the medicine they were given was something a lot cheaper than was officially claimed. That stuff is rare and expensive, not worth using on a fourteen year old girl with no particular skills.

@Lyendith: "Kono-chan" is not something new. It's what Konoka has been insisting on its use by Setsuna to refer to her instead of the usual, very formal "Ojousama" (after all, she calls her "Secchan"). There's even a short scene where Setsuna stammers as she tries to do just that soon after the Kyoto Arc, so unused she is to the sudden increase in familiarity in her term of reference to her Most Important Person in Life.

To be fair, there's the case of Misa, where she didn't initially have purple hair in the manga even though she was supposed to, and the anime beat the manga to that punch.
... But she has purple hair in that big spread image of Negi and the girls that's included in Chapter 1 right after Nekane faints.

Indeed… what's new is her managing to say it so… spontaneously. tongue I guess she was so worried that her internal barriers were blown up for a second.

Yeah, that is one of her problems: She tends to overthink on certain issues, ironically like a certain red-haired boy mage that she knows. You can call it having an overactive superego in the ego-superego-id psychological model.

Volume 23-24!

  • Does Kaede really need to cover her eyes? They are closed 90% of the time anyway.
  • Those pannels with Kaede and Asuna transporting their dragon horn like some light luggage though… a big BADASS stamp accross the page wouldn't be more explicit. This passage had a slightly Fairy Tail-ish feel to me for some reason…
  • Why do I have the impression that Kazumi's child form fits her personality better?
  • I'm only mildly interested in Yue's adventures at Hogwarts, but well, at least she does something. Not really a fan of Emily either.
  • … It's true that Anya has spectacularly vanished from the story since they entered the magic world though.
  • Why do these kinds of internal trainings always have to be concluded by some kind of vague epiphany like "accepting your weaknesses"… especially since said epiphany is usually ephemerous and just an excuse for a power-up. Unfortunately, I doubt it will be any different here…
  • Meanwhile at Mahora, Eva is Eva, Zazie is Zazie and Ayaka is Ayaka.
  • Oh boy, Negi's cover was busted by the worst person possible… ready to have your heart broken, Ako? Although… even if a dick like Tosaka tells her, it's not like she'll believe him…
  • Still, there is a good deal of Scenery Porn in this arc, isn't it.
  • That conversation with Fate… this is really the kind of scene that makes you doubt Negi is really 10. I like this kind of quiet yet intense scene.

Negi vs. Fate. One likes tea. The other likes coffee. They are sworn enemies! (… though going by UQ they won't remain so for long. Almost a pity.)

There's a reason for the "Who's Anya?" jokes.

That was good, yes.

Negi vs. Fate. One likes tea. The other likes coffee. They are sworn enemies!

Yes, Fate's love of coffee proves his extreme evil! (We made a big deal of this for a while after this chapter, until another chapter.)

Eh, Fate's friendship to Negi is only an Informed Trait that mostly happens offpanel. We never actually see them cooperating for any long, and it's telling the original manga end portrayed in the movie had Fate dying and yet Negi's life doesn't really change at all.
