Yeah, seems to be a subtrope of Status Quo Is God in specific reference to game shows. Tropable I guess, but the name is definitely too general. Status Quo Game Show?
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.edited 18th Nov '10 7:48:00 AM by FallenLegend
Make your hearth shine through the darkest night; let it transform hate into kindness, evil into justice, and loneliness into love.Failure Is the Only Option is specifically in reference to a goal for a character failing to be met because otherwise the series would end. You Can't Win isn't an example unless winning the game show would end the series somehow.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Seeing as no one has posted here since November, I am assuming that this topic has been resolved. Can someone please close it?
Thanks.
Guess who, it's Kaosubaloo!Strangely enough, I correctly managed to associate You Can't Win as a trope involving game shows before I read the page...
...but I thought it would have something to do with game shows that are effectively impossible to ever win, naturally would be related Deadly Game.
No, it's not resolved.
Rhymes with "Protracted."All right, let's get some usage counts. (also i changed the tag to point to the actual article)
The ptitle is on 3 indices and has 99 inbounds (huh?). The readable redirect has 28 wicks and 1 inbound. 3 wicks are alternate-language indices, 2 are pages that no longer exist, 2 are glitchy non-wicks.
- She's a Man in Japan: Wrong.
- Caroline In The City: Right.
- Crack Defeat: Right.
- DDG: Unclear, but it's about a game show so maybe?
- Diabolus ex Machina: Seems to understand the point of the trope, though it's not actually part of the example.
- Dinosaurs: Nothing.
- Dork Age: Wrong.
- Eighty Years War: Wrong.
- Game Show Appearance: Right.
- Garfield And Friends: Right.
- Kane And Lynch: All it says is "see above", it appears to be referring to Yank the Dog's Chain, which would be wrong.
- TroperTales.Older Than They Look: Wrong.
- DarthWiki.Project Krieg: Wrong.
- Webcomic.Pv P: Wrong. i mean right, how the crap
- Snuff Box: Right.
- Spin City: Right.
- Survivor: Could be right, if by "and paid for it" means "the guvmint took away all his winnings for the attempted tax evasion".
- The Weekenders: Just lists an episode title, but it sounds like it'd be right.
- Trans9: Wrong.
That's 7 misuses to 11 correct uses. Needs fixed.

she her hers hOI!!! i'm tempeI apologize for missing this earlier, but there is now a single proposition rename crowner for this trope here.
Given the amount of misuse for such a rarely used trope, a title that I think invites misuse because it is related to more than just game shows, and a phrase used as a trope name that people probably can shoehorn into a lot of different pages, I think this deserves a rename.

Status Quo Wins The Game Show?
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - Camacanworks for me. It's a little long, but for such a specific trope, that shouldn't be a problem.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. That does sound like a good name.
I'm good with that
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickCool with it.
Fight smart, not fair.Any objections or should I change it so we can wrap this up?
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDoesn't seem concise enough to me. Status Quo Always Wins is shorter, but risks confusion with Status Quo Is God.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Well, if it's limited to game shows, it should state that in the title. Well, that and it makes for a Sublime Rhyme.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanIt seems exactly concise enough for me, given what a specific trope it is. (Almost too specific, but not quite enough for me to complain.)
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Do we need more votes?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Looks pretty decisive to me, I think it can be called.
Calling the crowner with final results:
Status Quo Game Show at +9 (yeas:9 nays:0) — unanimous support
Make the move:
- Make the new page,
- Holler for a mod to move the discussion
- Move any subpages to the new name and cutlist the old ones
- Fix the wicks
- List the page on Renamed Tropes
- Make the old page a redirect to the new one.
- Holler for a lock on this thread.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.All of that's done. Just need the discussion moved and this is finished.
(It's You Can't Win, for those who don't speak ptitle)
Yeah, it's a trope about how you can't win.
If you're a fictional character on an In-Universe game show, and the prize is big enough to change the status quo.
