I've come to the conclusion that The Blind Banker is my least favourite. For some reason Lestrade is missing and there's quite a few Unfortunate Implications in the episode.
Don't worry, most people agree The Blind Banker isn't up to snuff.
Fresh-eyed movie blogThat said, The Reinconbach Fall (by the same writer) is very good and possilby my favourite episode from series 2.
Yeah, I was really worried when I saw they gave the Reichenbach to him, but he did really well with it.
Fresh-eyed movie blogNone of the episodes so far have match a study in pink in my opinion
It's all A grade television for sure, but they just haven't been able to repeat the sense of gritty realism and constant under tone of menace of the first one.

Sherlock: People have died.
Moriarty: That's what people DO!
(By the way, I love Sherlock's line. I think it shows that, deep down, he does care, no matter how much he insists he doesn't. Mycroft: My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he chooses to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?)

It's not over. Not yet.If I had to list from most favourite to least favourite I would say
- A Study In Pink
- The Great Game
- The Reichenbach Fall
- The Hounds Of The Baskerville
- A Scandal In Belgravia
- The Blind BankerÂ
TGG and TRF really come neck and neck, but I preferred the more 'classy' depiction of Moriarty and Homes in the first one. Hounds was good but it strayed too far from it's source material and 'repressed memories' is a cop out. We have spoken about Belgravia and less said about TBB the better.
hashtagsarestupidI liked the Blind Banker, up until Holmes's bullet dodging. That was malarkey.
I'm a skeptical squirrelI really like Paul McGuigan's directing style. The Head-Up Display (text on screen and stuff) style comes directly from him, and even though it came to define the show in the first season, it feels tacked-on in the episodes he didn't direct, especially The Blind Banker.
Fresh-eyed movie blogDid Mc Guigan direct "A Scandal in Belgravia"?
Because I thought it was a bit out of control in that one. Just bugged me for some reason.
It's not over. Not yet.I believe he directed Belgravia and Reichenbach Fall.
I really liked the way Sherlock and Adler walked around the dreamlike imaginary crime scene and when Sherlock was inputting the safe combination, but I was put off by Moriarty sending his text on its way with a raspberry.
I think Reichenbach was the one where the police station's lights turned out so Sherlock could review the maps in his head. That was pushing it.
Fresh-eyed movie blogIf I were to rank the episodes:
The Great Game (excellent)
The Reichenbach Fall (excellent)
A Study In Pink (excellent)
The Hound of Baskerville (good)
A Scandal in Belgravia (meh)
The Blind Banker (bad)
The Blind Banker's main good point is John's relationship with the female character whose name I forget. The mystery takes a back seat to Sherlock vs. Woman. And she stays with John even after his relationship with Sherlock puts her in danger.
And then two episodes later Sherlock is responsible for John's serial breakups.
Fresh-eyed movie blogSpeaking of John's girlfriends, I wonder if we are ever going to see Mary Morstan (Watson's wife in the original stories) in this version? Of course, it would be a bit of a Foregone Conclusion that she was the one for John.
Moffat and Gatiss have said they want to tackle rarely-covered story points, like Watson getting married.
Fresh-eyed movie blogYou know I'm warming up to the idea of felmale Watson for some reason...
hashtagsarestupidThere were a lot of parts in A Scandal in Belgravia which I loved, and quite a few that I disliked strongly. Either way, it evoked strong reactions from me, whereas The Blind Banker was pretty average-to-good throughout, and not particularly memorable. John's imitation of Sherlock was hilarious, though.
"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - Bocaj^what stood out for you?
hashtagsarestupidWelp, I just watched the first two episodes on Netflix to see what all of the fuss was about, and honestly, I just didn't like it. I wanted someone to murder Sherlock Holmes - I just hated the character that much. Of course, I guess it's to be expected, with him being another one of Steven Moffat's pet characters...
Fantastic Weapon Generator! You're not suppossed to like Sherlock at first. You're suppossed to think he's a dick. John is one you like and care about.
And Moffat doesn't seem to be that involved. This is more of a Mark Gatiss show.
I do get that Sherlock isn't supposed to be the most likeable character, but there are various things that happen that take it from "dislike" to "JUST SHOOT HIM!"
And then, there are the little ridiculous things in the show...
- Sherlock apparently has MAGIC HIGH-SPEED MAGNIFICATION VISION that allows him to read the itty-bitty numbers of a watch that passes by his face.
- It sure is convenient that so many murder victims are left-handed.
- It's also pretty convenient that Scotland Yard is apparently about as competent as the Keystone Kops. If they actually had half a brain between them, they probably wouldn't need Sherlock at all.
All of those aspects are from the original Sherlock Holmes stories. You might as well complain that theTransformers movies had robots in them.

Actually, I've felt that this series has averted the 'Scotland Yard are just idiots' recurrence fairly well so far. So far, the cases in which Sherlock has worked with them have been... well, a serial suicide case, which is definitely out-of-the-norm, and two cases against Moriarty. I'd only say they behaved stupidly in the last one.
I also don't get understand why it's so convenient all the murder victims are left-handed. -_^ Not only is it something I don't recall ever being of outstanding case significance, it's also a situation in which it doesn't actually matter - you could get the same story by having them be right-handed and still injured on the 'wrong side'.
The Revolution Will Not Be Tropeable
What is this ad hominem crap being flung at the Moff?
