I would like to object on the grounds of over-generalization. The main points of discussion were "This article needs to be completely scrapped and rewritten" on one end (Jovian) and "It could be better, that's fine, but I don't think the article needs to be entirely scrapped" on the other (myself).
I'm open to free editing - I wouldn't be here if I was - but my simple objection is that the page doesn't need to be reworked from scratch.
Favorite TV Tropes Quote: "Going on a journey, I've got my cell if you need me."Paste in what your proposed changes are and we can merge the two and/or see if anything else needs to be done.
Right now, the page is far too much about the Paladin class in gaming, rather than the character type used in other forms of entertainment. That is a huge flaw.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I literally rewrote the article from scratch, so my "proposed changes" are... everything. You can read my rewrite in the article history (third edit down) if you want. I basically just condensed everything, removed much of the video game mechanics aspect (but left in the links to Stone Wall, Combat Medic, Tank, etc), and cut out extraneous things like the etymology of the word "paladin" (which could go under trivia if people want, but it doesn't belong in the main article).
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I like the shorter version of the article. The other one is just long and dumb.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThe other thing that bugs me here was that the entire reason Paladin was there was because there is a work The Paladin. Which I know because I wrote the damn article on it. Someone moved it over to The Paladin (Literature namespace, that is) and then overwrote it with a new article.
I thought the general policy was that works overrode tropes in precedence for mainspace titles? Or did we change that? I forget.
Also, my review for the work was lost by doing this.

A brighter future for a darker age.Works have precedence unless they're named after a pre-existing term that pre-dates the work as is so in this case.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickIs there any way to save the review? I'll ask Fast Eddie, I guess.
You're probably right; working on the principle of least surprise, people would always link to the work when they meant the character type if the work was at the Main title.
A brighter future for a darker age. It's not lost. It's right here.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThat's done.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyThanks!
A brighter future for a darker age.Argh. Forgot about this, and when I went back to fix it it'd been long enough that my edits had been bumped from the article history. So I just rewrote it from scratch again.
Thread can probably be locked unless anyone has any huge objections.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Bump? Needs a lock.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. You're right, this is done. Locking, and thank you to all who worked on getting this squared away.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
Due to a YKTTW mishap, The Paladin was accidentally launched in two places. A few days ago, there was TSR thread to merge them. The merge was done and the thread was locked. Problem is, the merge was done clumsily and now the article is simultaneously redundant and contraditory, in addition to really being longer than it needs to be in general. The article as it is now is a combination of the original YKTTW, some work done by the guy who launched it, and my from-scratch rewrite of the article at Paladin (which was fairly similar to what was originally at The Paladin).
I edited The Paladin to the text of my Paladin rewrite, since the original article had a lot of problems and I'd already rewritten it from scratch once, so it seemed pointless to waste the work. It was reverted in its entirety by the guy who launched The Paladin. In The Paladin's discussion page, it's boiled down to me saying "it's bad, it needs to be fixed" and him saying "it's fine, leave it alone".
So I'm bringing it (back) here rather than getting into a sniping match in the discussion page or causing an edit war.
