This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.
e.g.
Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?
Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?
Get the idea?

A towel is rough and has a lot of adhesion, whereas your hands produce oil, and are therefore not very adhesive.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elsehow do w2s work?
first min wage job taxes soon
David Bowie 1947-2016A towel also provides a soft layer for your hands so they don't hurt, which is often one of the things stopping you twisting hard enough (and rightly so).
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. What happens to bugs in the winter is they either lay eggs and die, fly south, or hibernate.
A W-2 will give your employer information, the amount of money they paid you in the last fiscal year, and how much was withheld for taxes.
In my near-minimum wage part time job, I've found that my state taxes usually get a refund, but that may be eaten by federal taxes due.
Fresh-eyed movie blog@Sixthhokage1: OK, so it wasn't Linnaeus who picked the whole binomial that we use today. But why is it comprised of not just one, but two mythological figures' name (one for the genus part, the other for the species part)?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. Is it true you only owe them if you make a certain amonut?
David Bowie 1947-2016Yes. The amount depends on whether or not you're a dependent (it's something around $3500 for a dependent and $5900 for a single non-dependent). However, you still have to fill out the tax forms if you want a refund.
I always calculate it anyway, but there will come a point where the calculations will tell you you're done and they don't need to hear from you if you made less than a certain amount. However, if they've been withholding tax money they didn't need, you'll probably want to file anyway to get it back.
I had two on-campus jobs in three years. I was told they were exempt from Federal tax and they didn't withhold any Federal tax. I did my calculations and found that indeed, they didn't want any money from me.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI promise this is a legitimate question: lately I've noticed a lot more YF regulars to try to stay on-topic. The exception is Insecurities, this thread, Fetishes, other stickied threads, etc.
but instead of weirdo impulsive posts, we have every 5th post reminding us to stay on topic... when did this shift happen?
byeThe constant on topic reminders came in about four to six months ago from what I remember. It's hard to pinpoint.
This is more of an Linguistics question but the definition of the word 'talent'. Does it refer exclusively to innate aptitude or can it be use to refer to overall capability regardless of how it was acquired?
hashtagsarestupid"Talent" usually refers to inherent ability. "Skill" is what you want if you mean an ability that isn't necessarily inherent.
How do you put a photo on a page?
I want to put a picture on my contributor's page, and I can't remember how.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseFirst, you have to upload the picture to TV Tropes using their special tool, keeping with all of their sizing rules. Upon successful uploading, it'll give you the code to paste to a page.

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."Images In Wiki Pages has more information if you need it. And also a whole load of pop tarts.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. Why do I always see two words together with an exclamation point between them?
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseIt means "Type of person" person.
For example;
Gay!Person means that the version of Person being talked about is homosexual.
Genderbent!Person means that the version of Person being talked about is genderbent.
Get it?
It could also have to do with shipping or characters in a work.
For example, F!Shepard is the female Shepard from Mass Effect.

It just looks weird.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseWhat else could we use? Pipe (|)?
Is it douchey to make a page on here about a story/Fan Fic just because you like it?
Short answer: no.
So long as you can make a good description, and provide a few tropes.
That's... pretty much how a majority of work pages got started, I imagine.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Alright, good deal then. Just making sure. Didn't wanna be the new guy who was a douchebag
Making a page for a fanfic isn't douchey. (Though if it's a MLP 'fic it'll just seem trite.) However, listing it as an example on every page that it has a trope for is, especially if it's not quite notable enough to not have a page already. (We all know There Is No Such Thing As Notability, but when your beloved fanfic has more wicks than The Dresden Files does you're doing something wrong.)
Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about. How do you describe an expression like this emoticon- :/ -like, when someone pulls up one corner of their mouth, I guess? I picture it a lot when I write, so I figure I should probably have a slightly more elegant way of describing it...

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."
Why is it easier to unscew caps/lids from bottles/cartons when you use a towel as opposed to your bare manly hands?
