@CA:Not really. I remember getting really upset when this video store we used to go to every weekend closed.

The store in question was a Target Greatland that my family frequented for many years. As I was growing up, we would often go there on the weekend intending to get one or two things, but end up spending hours in the store, and leaving with a full cart of stuff.

Thinking about it gives me that sorta bittersweet nostaglic feeling, because it's gone now and none of the "updated" Target stores have quite the same feel.

CA: No, of course not. I still miss the old red-and-white Giant Food stores of The '80s, myself. Also, the Dart Group trifecta (Dart Drug, Trak Auto, and Crown Books).

There's practically no local chains left in DC anymore, so it's a big deal. All the grocery stores are either owned by European grocery specialists (Giant and Food Lion/Bottom Dollar/Bloom), Supervalu or Safeway, and all the banks 'cept a one are old West Coast chains (yeah, I know, Boa is technically based in Charlotte now, but I still see them as being from California).

Also, something I didn't think too hard about until very recently: VISA:BoA::MasterCard:Wells Fargo.

Earlier I was recalling the night I got home from my family roadtrip back in July. The first thing I did was rush to the computer to try and talk to AU, and in my haste I accidentally set my location as "anorak" and my user title as "Columbus, Ohio".

Then we found out there was no food in the house, so my dad and I went out to Meijer to pick up snacks. It was late at night and they had several of the self-scan registered blocked off. A man on a scissor lift was unplugging the registers so they could be moved to replace the flooring underneath them.
