— TV Tropes Forum RPG Guide —

The TV Tropes Forum RPG zone is divided into 3 different zones, normal RPs usually have a thread in each of these.

  • Role Playing Singups: The first place to go in order to join a game or start your own. In this place the GMs post the basic settings, story and rules of the RPs and the players post their own characters and wait for approval to start posting in the game proper.
  • Role Playing Discussion: Where all the OC talk goes, like discussing character actions and a place to ask questions.
  • Role Playing: This zone is where the actual Role Playing takes place.

Please do refer to the Role Playing Rules for the guidelines on which this section of the Forum operates. Different R Ps have their own rules, though the ones outlined in the Role Playing Rules thread cover the basics of what is enforced here.

The Odds, a Survival Horror RP where a powerful being used his powers to send in canon established characters from various series and pit them in SH environment against SH enemies.

The latter game mentioned is now up. Maybe a good time to experiment if two peeps can play it out first and wait for another one to show up since someone told me via PM that he'll join... maybe later.

I don't know how many people are still paying attention to this thread, but this still seems like the most appropriate place to post this.

So the last RP I was GMing went kaput, but I'm still in the mood to give another go at the GM reigns. I've got three different RP ideas, but I definitely can't try GMing more than one at a time, so I want to know which sounds the most fun to people.

  • As requested by Hackenfall Backslash, a science vs magic RP in an original setting with players taking roles in either faction. Since this would be a PvP game and I'd need to keep my own bias in check, it would be using a rule system for combat rather than purely freeform, but I'll be keeping the most of it "behind the scenes" so to speak. (That is, I'll do all the rolls myself.)

  • A pseudo crossover RP in an original setting based on (and using elements from) Minecraft and Terraria. Player characters would be original characters from established media universes. (IE, you could play a character from Midgar, but you couldn't play as Cloud Strife.) I could use the same ruleset for the first RP idea or just keep it freeform.

  • A revive of my BHoTA RP, but this time set up in a way that I won't have to have enormous infodumps that scare away new players. The short version is: It's a modern apocalypse against demons and otherworldly monsters. Once again, I could use a ruleset or just keep it freeform, though this one in particular would probably work better as a freeform game.

I've wanted to play a Pokémon RPG for a while now. I have some ideas of my own however, the last time I GM I feel like I failed to take the player's goals into consideration. So what I'm going to do, is list my ideas and ask for feedback here, then work out an official proposal from there.

  • Where should it take place? An existing Pokémon Region or one made up by us? (I prefer the latter)
  • Who are the Bad Guys? An existing Team or a new one? (I have an idea for a new one, Team Spectrum, who wants to evolve humans so they can have Pokémon Powers too.)
  • How are the players at start? Are they kids with starters or can they be anybody with up to six (non-legendary) Pokémon? (I prefer the latter). And what about levels?
  • Are Pokémon sentient or not? (I prefer not, except maybe some Legendaries.)
  • Are the TV show characters available for play or only as NPCs, if at all? (I'd rather they be NPCs.)
  • What should the main goal of the game be? Fight an Evil Team? Find a Legendary Pokémon? Win the local gym badges? Or something else?
  • any other suggestions?

[up] Hm.. Well region depends on how much you want/like worldbuilding. If you want lots of that, go with original region. There'd be worldbuilding either way, but less so with a pre established region.

Original team sounds like a good idea. And it sounds like you already have ideas for that, so...

Anyone sounds good by me, just no overpowered- ness.

Yeah, tv show characters should be NP Cs if they're to be mentioned at all.

This is just my personal opinion, but I'd rather have the pokemon be sentient.

My problem with Pokémon being sentient has always been that it's inhumane to treat thinking beings as tools, which is what even the kindest Trainer does. And unless we assume they eat nothing but berries -why would they need sharp teeth then- they would also effectively be cannibals...

But as I said: I want this to be a game defined by consensus.

Speaking of which, I forgot to add one factor to the list: what the main goal of the game should be (adventure, competition, etc.) I edited the list to add it already.

AFAIK the answer to the "you're making them fight" thing was that the pokemon want to fight. When they show up in the grass, they are challenging you to show your skills and your potential for giving them good fights in the futurenote

And yeah "what do they eat" is a typical question asked in any media that expects you to emphatise with a wide cast of various types of animals.

Guardians of nature a urban fantasy action adventure rpg where a group of six teenagers find out that they are the reincarnates of Elementals by the nature goddess gaea in order to save mankind from being overtaken by the all consuming blight. Like the idea.

In the Shadow of Man, a RP about animals trying to survive in a world of man's design. Needs a bit more players.

Anyone interested in a D&D 3.5 game? It would be run as a typical Play by Post (eg without dice rolling) but otherwise follow the rules as close as possible.

Campus Life is a Massively Multiplayer Crossover RP that's been going on for years now. It recently underwent a Continuity Reboot due to two key RPers involved in the main plot having to leave due to Real Life situations but there's still a dedicated few hoping to keep it alive.

There has been some arguments over plot direction in the past but, hopefully, it's all been ironed out now. So long as you don't go too crazy like having campus-wide riots, there shouldn't be a problem. It's hosted off site on FanFiction.Net on various Forums in the past, with the most current one being here.

The Forum also has a variety of other RPs to offer so if you're not interested in Campus Life, at least give the other RPs on it a check too.

I'm pondering the idea of starting a Fate/stay night / Digimon crossover RP. Either focused on Digimon Tamers or Savers, though I'm also pondering expanding the former via aspects of Fate/EXTRA. Basically, it'd take place in Fuyuki, and things go down from there.

Alternatively, I'm also pondering an original standalone Digimon RP with a focus on expanding on concepts from Savers.

Probably a silly question, but would something like a quest where users submit actions go into Roleplaying, or would that better suit Forum Games? There'll be a GM and all, but I just wanna clarify and double check. It'd be something a little more "meta", involving having a character use tropes to.. progress the story a little bit. Still have to think on the idea a bit.

If it's multiple users submitting actions for one character, then it's for Forum Games, there have been several threads like that. If everybody is just playing their own character then its RPG section.

I'm considering creating a somewhat-DTG-style game that takes place in a D&D style world where the goal is not to destroy the Godmodder but instead to prevent four disasters from destroying the world. Said disasters will be revealed one at a time until all 4 are neutralized.

Any tips or comments?

I was thinking of creating a roleplay called Mind Labyrinth, where participants are trapped psychologically inside a maze consisting of their own Mental World, does that concept sound interesting or not? Just an idea for a roleplay I had just now.

Hello everyone. I am interested in starting a reboot of The Great TV Tropes Western, a RP thread I started in Forum Games long ago that died out. This thread will have a similar concept: It takes place in a fantasy version of The Wild West where all sorts of species live together. Our characters will be various inhabitants of this world who team up to go on an adventure.

However, the original thread was about stopping a single Big Bad, whereas in this thread, we will be fighting an organization of the most dangerous outlaws in the west. Players can create their own villain NPCs to be a part of this organization.

What do you all think? Is anyone here interested?

No "Bowser's Fury" questions please. I haven't played it yet.
