Loved that tune too, though Brains! is still my favorite tune from the show.

@Known Unknown

Grim Adventures did win, KND won the one after that one(Grim even hosted it). Also, KND was also a good show and loved the crossover.

This series had a ton of balls, but it lost its luster fairly early in its run. The first season after the split form Evil Con Carne was the last good one.

Necroing this thread. Again, it must be necroed.

This is, in my humble opinion, one of the best Cartoon Cartoons ever made, and one of the best dark comedies out there.

All those quotable lines, songs by Voltaire, hilarious characters (Dracula don't suck! He do the scrape and lick!)... Just great, funny stuff!

Oh, I guess I didn't watch long enough to see the downturn. I just liked the split because I felt Evil Con Carne wasn't nearly as inspired.

The series was brilliant all the way to the end, with a few mediocre episodes tossed in... Mostly in the last season.

Dracula was one of my most favorite characters.

And Little Rock Of Horrors was one of my favorite episodes.

Honestly, while I liked this show a lot when it was on, I do feel like it was really uneven. The beginning of the show was alright, but while it had a decently morbid tone, the humor lacked the bite it needed to really hit its mark all the time. The middle period of the show made up for this by striking a nice balance between morbidity and hilarity. Later on in the series? They seemed to revel a bit too much in stupid humor. There were moments of brilliance scattered throughout the later part of the show ("Keeper of the Reaper" might just be one of my favorite episodes of any cartoon that exists), but they tended to use the overly flanderized quirks of the characters to an annoying degree as a bit of a crutch, as well as running gags that wore out their welcome pretty quickly (e.g.: Fred Fredburger—funny in his first appearance...annoying, obnoxious, overly "we're trying to make lightning strike twice in forcing him as a meme" in most of his later appearances).

I suppose it's only tangentially related, but I feel like Evil Con Carne was a great show that had a bit of a different problem. Early on (especially in the episodes when Grim and Evil was still a thing), the show seemed to have a near-perfect tone. It clearly wasn't going for a wacky comedy thing like Billy and Mandy eventually did, but its humor was there. It had a much more subtle, muted, character-driven approach that worked incredibly well. The characters were just great in general, which is possibly a reason why they transplanted Skarr (one of the best villain cartoon characters in television history I'd say) to Billy and Mandy after the show got cancelled. Unfortunately, though, I think the show got a bit too wrapped up in this as it progressed. While I admit, I didn't see many episodes in its last season (I blame Cartoon Network constantly shuffling it around in its schedule and doing dick all to promote it), there is one that I recall just being incredibly self-indulgent with the characters, to the point where it ceased to progress the characters and it wasn't even funny—it was just boring and a little bit dumbnote . It's a shame, though, since I felt like in its best moments, Evil Con Carne vastly outshone Billy and Mandy. I admit, both were great and both were going for very different things, but I feel like ECC transcended to a higher plane (to describe this as pretentiously as possible), or at least tried to do so, whereas B&M was content most of the time to stay where it was.

[up] Quite a few of the mediocre episodes came from the final season. Not to say there weren't hilarious episodes - the entirety of Big Boogey Adventure, the return of Evil Con Carne, Nergal opening a pizza place...

I seem to recall they buried some of the mediocre episodes in November, at 9 p.m.

I'd really need to go back and rewatch the show to see this, but yeah, if nothing else, by the very end, Seasonal Rot hit this show rather hard in that regard.

It didn't hit quite as hard as some other shows - which is why I'd classify its worst stuff as mediocre - but it did hit by the end and it may have been why they buried some of the final episodes where nobody would see them.

"Excuse me, do you have a shrunken head?" "What makes you say that?" (zooms in) (the man Billy is talking to has a shrunken head) "Holyfreakshow!"

This show was so damn funny, it's up there with Cow & Chicken and early-Fairly Odd Parents as the funniest shows from my childhood. grin

Bump

I've been watching episodes of this show lately, and it really isn't as great as I remember. It's still watchable, but can get kinda boring and irritating. Especially the episodes I saw from the later seasons.

I couldn't get through two minutes of this show. Billy's just so obnoxious that he drowns everything else out.
