Yuki-chan will be the only way the series will continue really.
They're not unrelated. From the publisher's perspective, the main point of an anime is to advertise the books, so when there's no new books there's no reason to invest in an anime. They have no incentive whatsoever.
So I've been an occasional anime watcher for a few years. While I had mixed feelings about the show proper, I absolutely LOVED the Disappearance of Haruhi. I remember watching the cam rip in 2010 and then, a few months later, watching a higher quality version on You Tube.
Now I'm looking to actually purchase stuff. Was looking to buy the movie on Bluray but was shocked to find that it costs like a million bucks anywhere. Apparently something happened with Bandai? Like I said, only a casual fan for a while now.
Is there any chance The Disappearance of Haruhi will get re-realesed on Bluray in such a way as to not cost so much?

There were Blu-rays out in 2012, in Japan at least. I don't know if Funimation did or has plans to release the dub that way, though.
It's been fun.Yeah, a lot of the dvds of the original series and the blu ray of the movie are damn near impossible to find now. Apparently the "special" edition of volume 7, which is just a hardcover with the original illustration, also goes for a lot, which is odd considering the rest of the hardcovers are still at price.
I wonder if Funamation is going to release Yuki-chan on DVD or Blu Ray, they've dubbed the series but there's been no announcements or anything to my knowledge.
Dost Thou Desire the Power ... Glove? It's so bad.Snap. I guess I just don't get economics. Usually something so wildly popular as Haruhi has enough demand to incentivize the people to make it available so we can buy it. But with anime, for some reason, stuff for even a huge series like Haruhi is hard to find. Weird sauce.
It's mostly a matter of time, given that it's been a long while since the dvds came out, same with the novels. For some reason it always seems that a lot of anime on hardcopy is difficult to find after the initial release dies down.
Dost Thou Desire the Power ... Glove? It's so bad.Alas, time passes. Realistically, our best hope for a revival of Haruhi is Tanigawa.
Author of The Second Coming (NGE) and The Coin (Haruhi). So there is no hope.
What do you all think of this picture◊? I like it. :) It's nicely refreshing to see Haruhi smiling sweetly instead of mischievously for a change. ;)
Flora is the most beautiful member of the Winx Club. :)Sorry I saw her arms and now all I can think to ask is 'Why won't anyone give that poor girl a sandwich or something?!'
Someone's been watching a little too much Atop the Fourth Wall (Where Bad Comics Burn). ;P
Flora is the most beautiful member of the Winx Club. :)That's my usual reaction to most anime characters.
Check out my fanfiction!^^^ I have never even heard of that.
Linkara makes hilarious reviews of bad comic books in it. One of his Running Gags is that he tells characters who look thinner than they should to eat a hamburger or two.
Flora is the most beautiful member of the Winx Club. :)I always wondered why nobody seems to care about anything Tanigawa has ever done besides Haruhi. Didn't he have another light novel published in English?
He did, but it looked rather pretentious somehow, even for a light novel.

It's been fun.Uh...aren't light novels generally supposed to be the opposite of pretentious?
deviantArt | TwitterTrust me, light novels can still be pretentious. They're just pretentious in an otaku way instead of a stuffy literature professor way.
It's been fun.I haven't read it myself, and it's been a long time since I've seen it, but I got that distinct impression from what I did see of it back then. If I remember right, it's about a high school girl who's a supergenius or something?
It's been fun. Most light novels are pretentious in the way teenagers (the target audience) can be pretentious. Like, being mostly vapid and cliched while acting as if they were soooo deep and hip, man, and their problems are sooooooooo important.
Pretty much, yup. Pretty much exactly that.
Which, I mean... they're basically pulp novels, and not everything needs to be a Classic Of Highbrow Literature, but still.
It's been fun.
I can't believe it's almost been two years. I suppose regardless of what happens that time just keeps marching on.
As for the series itself, I'm not too optimistic about the series really continuing, at least in novel form. There might, someday, be a further adaptation into animated territory. One can hope.
