Just post whatever comes to mind.
Please refrain from excess venting in this thread. Talking about negative emotions is fine but it's best not to dwell on them for too long. TV Tropes is not suited to deal with mental health situations.
If Oscar Wilde had lived in our time, he would be a /b/tard.
Actually, scratch that. He does, and goes by Jethro Q Walrustitty.

True altruism/selflessness doesn't exist.
Man, I sound cynical even though it's true.

"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."You just need to have that balance between thinking about others and thinking about yourself.
Momentum, a function of mass and velocity, is conserved between portals. In layman's terms: speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out.Radiohead's 'Creep' honestly creeps me the hell out. In the bad way. I get why the band refuses to play the damn thing now.
YUUGI WANTS YOU FOR DRINKING BUDDYIt just drips with self-indulgent teenage wangst, doesn't it? Playing that must be like reading your teenage diary entries as an adult.
Blegh.
Also...
He's right. It is. Degrees are so common now that they've become the standard. A bit annoying for folk like me who got ours a few years back, but that's what happens when universities become industrialised degree mills.

'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'I'm not sure if they wrote it with the intention of it being literal or a bit of a play on the idea of teenage wangst. However, judging from their refusal to play it, it honestly could be the latter.
Regardless, can't really stand it.
YUUGI WANTS YOU FOR DRINKING BUDDYMan, I sound cynical even though it's true.
Yep. If anyone was completely altruistic, they'd be dead. "Go ahead, have my food source! And water source! And shelter, too!"
That is not a good thing, mind you.
It doesn't matter, though. You might be helping people partly because it's right and partly because it makes you feel good, but you're still helping people without asking for more.
As someone who usually errs on the side of selfishness, my own generosity can surprise me. Yesterday I gave a friend 80 dollars to buy part of an outfit for his prom. When he asked when I wanted to be paid back, I refused.
You need an adult.Good morning, everyone.
dead devotionOf all things to be selfish with, I find money often not worth the bother. Obviously you don't just earn some then throw it at random people, but developing too tight a grip on your money seems to develop unhealthy habits for some people.
I don't know about anyone else, but the thought having someone in debt to me to an actual dollar amount is uncomfortable. I'd rather just let them have it and it was no obligation.
Morning!

The whole bragging thing is a big point.
Selflessness is great, but when you brag about it, it loses a certain dignity. It's like you're doing it for the adulation and not the actually acts of kindness etc.
So, most selfless people will keep their own actions to themselves. It's a humility thing.
