Not sure if this belongs here or in one of the other areas; Mods, feel free to move it.

What sort of stuff do you listen to while you're writing/drawing/painting/sculpting/whatever? Do you prefer silence, mood music, something that reflects what you are currently working on, or just something to fill the space?

I like movie soundtracks, they always put me into the mood to write.

Songs with lyrics that fit the theme of the work are also good.

Whenever I see a show about how great an artist I hate is, it always inspires me to write a song/work on my script/whatever I'm doing at the time.

I pretty much can't write without music sometimes. Best if it's thematically appropriate.

Because I choose to.

I usually set up a playlist based around a specific genre or theme and let it play. If I'm feeling lazy I'll just open up Media Player and hit shuffle, and just let my library play through.

If I have bad writer's block, I find instrumental music less distracting, but otherwise anything works. At this moment I'm listening to Galneryus while working on a short story.

Well I enjoy listening to Comptine d'un Autre été: L'Après-Midi to get pondering on stuff

Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

This thread is six years old, it seems unnecessary to revive it.

I'll post this now, just in case: Creature Feature. Oh, my God, Creature Feature. I just... if I ever need inspiration for something, they're one of my first options. I don't even know why! Is it the fact that the subject matter fits with what I'm working on? Curtis Rx's voice? The ambiance? Some combination of those things? Something else entirely? Who knows? In fact, now that I think about it, who cares?

If I'm listening to something while writing, it's probably Ambient or Post-Rock. "Avril 17th" by Aphex Twin usually gets me in the mood.

Heaven or Las Vegas by the Cocteau Twins and Puberty 2 by Mitski has always been something I go to to finish work.

No idea why, but I feel like being introduced to Q-Pop recently helped me get over a major writer's block somewhat. Aidana Medenova's stuff is also pretty nice to sketch to.
