You make an excellent point. Vote trope transplant.
Fight smart, not fair. And it needs a Laconic or something. I'm not even sure what this is. NPCs in Role-Playing Games like to go to the circus...or something...?
Rhymes with "Protracted."I think it's more like "there's only one entertainment district in the entire world" or "there's only one pasttime that the entire world participates in". Not sure which.
I believe the Laconic is "Game towns only have one entertainment" it's a subtrope of Conservation of Detail.
Hm, upon further reading, it's a couple of things.
- ) The entire world has only one sport or one form of entertainment.
- ) It will be located in the largest city.
- ) You will go see it, eventually.
- ) (Optional) Something of plot importance will happen there.
Considering that the name makes it sound far broader than it is and the wrong type of trope furthers my view that this is better as a characterization trope.

Fight smart, not fair. The misuse on this trope is only getting worse. I attached a crowner for options.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThis should NEVER have been called Easily Amused. Bumping because there are 13 yes's on the crowner for a Rename.
Keeper of The Celestial FlameI think this one is safe to call.
Called. Do the trope transplant and someone YKTTW the character type.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAdded an alternate names crowner. Anyone have any suggestions?
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick...Wait, that sounds like a dig at RP Gs...
EDIT: Single Pastime World?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."I like Only One Pastime. (It only has one T though not two.) Sole Entertainment Option might also be good.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickBumping for more votes and possibly other suggestions.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."Bumping again. Is it okay to call this one?
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."Only One Pastime is the clear leader, here, but it seems like it only describes half of the trope. The trope is that RP Gs will have either a) one game that's played worldwide, or b) one entertainment district in the entire world. Only One Pastime captures the first pretty well, but the second not at all. I don't think it's worth splitting the trope, but I'd like to see a name that better encapsulates both versions.
Maybe Limited Entertainment Options? I'd open it up to non-RPG examples, as well. In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, for example, whenever they need a game, it's always Sabacc (which is basically poker Recycled In Space).
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. That doesn't really encapsulate most of the trope though. It's going on a completely different tangent and trying to expand it into things that have dozens of entertainment options, but not as many as the real world.
As for Star Wars, it wouldn't fit this trope in any way shape or form. That's not even the only game that shows up in the original trilogy! It's not even the only game that shows up in the first movie. Add in 1-3 and the expanded universe and there are dozens of games and sports in Star Wars.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickRegarding the second way this trope occurs (only one entertainment district in the world), I think your name suggestion is a bit vague, but I think you're on to something. "Pastime" doesn't really say "entertainment venue/district" to me (it's more of a synonym for "hobby"). "Entertainment" applied to card games and such is a bit better, but I'm wondering if there's a word that would cover both. If there isn't, I'd be inclined to go with Sole Entertainment Option.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."I like Sole Entertainment Option. Covers "playing [game]" or "going to [place]" equally well.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I like Sole Entertainment Option too. ANYTHING but Easily Amused, I was going to make this TRS discussion weeks ago but the forum was over-capacity.
[The rest was unintelligible.]This thread has been going on since December. Please check to see if there are open TRS threads. It's a huge issue.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI tried using the TRS search function beforehand to see if there was a discussion already open, but since it didn't turn anything up I didn't think there was a thread on it. I may not have done it right, but I did try. Anyway, glad it's here now!
[The rest was unintelligible.]Right now what we really need is more votes.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI think we can call this one...
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."Yeah, looks pretty conclusive to me.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.
