Deconstructing Mindlinks

I have these two characters, partly due to the magical abilities they posess along with a really strong friendship have a mild telepathic conection. How can I make such a link really, really annoying?

How mild? Dirty Mind-Reading mild or "your bladder is full and that shoe itches" mild?

Well sometimes they catch each thoughts, especially when one of them is feeling intense emotion. Plus sometimes they share dreamscapes, they don't mind that so much since it allows them to indulge in various wish fufillmant fantasies. They do occasionally lapse into Dirty Mindreading.

Nightmares? Do they share each other's nightmares? I know it would traumatize my brothers to share my nightmares.

I would think that to make the connection really annoying, you'd have to point out how little they think about each other, as in they don't follow each others train of thought are basically thinking all the time "pay attention to me" or "Think about me". Or bring in values dissonance such as Abuse Is Okay When It Is Female on Male, Arab Oil Sheikh, or Beautiful All Along.

Basically remind the audience that two people almost never think alike at any given time. Until Synchronization which is I imagine the plot they are tyring to avoid.

If it helps they're not lovers. Cousins actaully, in fact pretending to be Kissing Cousins is one of their favoroute ways to freak people who don't know them. I always thought it'd fun to explore a mindlink that isn't shared by lovers or twins. Also I like the idea of them sharing nightmares as well.

It would be rather annoying to hear everything another person is thinking about. Heck, even a fraction of most people's inane thoughts would probably drive you up the wall.

Make 'seeing' someone's thoughts very, very complicated. People don't usually think the same way they talk. It's a whole mishmash of thoughts, other thoughts, subconcsious thoughts, emotions, images, sounds and feellings.

If you really want to mess things up introduce some Freudian psychology. One character may 'see' that the other has a Oedipus complex or relate her with his mother. Of course, the one being mind read has no idea at all as it's a deeply buried process.

One person may have a song stuck in their head.

Maybe when ever one of them does anything they wouldn't normally do they get paranoid of the other's personality "rubbing of on them" so to speak.
